Hans StockerParticipantHello Annette,
To begin with: This topic is OK to put your question forward. Odd square clouds aren’t they?
It is also possible to create a new topic. There are may ways.
When I first followed the link you provided about square clouds I got almost lost in lots of conspiracy nonsense with – of course – also the famous non-existing chemtrails popping up. But then I remembered there was a square cloud on the CAS gallery. It even got picture of the month in august 2014 with the explanation you are looking for.
Cloud of the month august 2014
After some googling I also found next link that supports the analysis together with some discussion and more extensive info.
I hope you like it.

Hans StockerParticipantThank you Keelin (although almost four weeks later to do so). Itwas a joy indeed to watch these moments. I captured a new one for this thread recently.

Hans StockerParticipantHello Laurence, until now I was a bit reluctant to react on your question , being one of the frequent users of the forum. As a matter of fact I don´t see any problem in the number of topics. When I look this morning to the topics page I see on the bottom a topic last updated a week and 4 days ago. Sometimes it can go faster, but the number of posts per day are mostly 3 or 4 and on a few days 5 or 6 max. The number of posts per day and the number of regular users are not that high that one who is interested in the forum will loose overview. So I do not really see a cluttering up of the every day forum as far as I am concerned.
The specific threads that are meant to exchange pictures might be a different category, but with the above in mind I see no need to place them in a separate folder. That would result in work – even maybe costs? – for the ones who maintain the website and I see no need for such a change.
I am happy with the every day forum as it is. For me it may be even more frequently used as it is now.
Btw: LIFO means “last in first out” in contrast to FIFO being “first in first out”, both ways to run a stockroom.
Hans, always looking forward to the nice links you want to share.
Hans StockerParticipantA view from above on a clouded sea? No I did not fly to capture this….

Hans StockerParticipantWow, that sunrise over Volume V glows Keelin. Love the colors and beams.

Hans StockerParticipantYes There They Are, …. almost lost in this extensive cirrus filled cloudscape. Very nice Keelin.

Hans StockerParticipantArizona #159 even feels furry Michael. Wonderful texture.
Nothing soft on this one.

Sky X-ray
Hans StockerParticipantHygge, you are quite right not to buy kitsch although I tried to sell it that way. And thanks for compliments. Sometimes nature shows colors that seem to be unreal. This picture I enhanced a bit, but be sure that the colors shown were all there in reality.
Michael. I don’t know what you did to produce your “garish”. Very funny in the first place. And a real surreal (…?….) abstract for sure! I am wondering about the separate blues on the bottom of the picture. Maybe a distinct shadow in which the reds of the setting sun are not reflected? Intriguing.
After kitsch and garish this one from my archive seems to be applicable (be sure: it is like it really was with just a bit extra contrast where it may be not needed?).

Burning
Hans StockerParticipantHello Ramona, Hygge explained how to get notice of response on this thread. About the classifications I would say that I agree with the first three. The fourth seems to me part of the same layer of atocumulus as seen above in he picture. Due to perspective the lenticular-like patches seem to be at another level, but I think they are at the same level. The congestus builds up higher so the altocumulus shows in front of it. For what it is worth…… Any other opinion is welcome.

Hans StockerParticipantUnusual indeed Laurence. With clear explanation. Thanks for sharing!
Hans
Hans StockerParticipantThanks Keelin.
I must assume you just read the topic on the home page about Skyday and the call for a Sky-ku. Your Perfect Fit is just a perfect fit for this initiative. Perfect title and a perfect applicable haiku. Are you going to tweet it? It is spot on.
I love this kind of appearance of altocumulus (I suppose in the phase of building up) where all the patches just leave some space in between, like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

Also In Three Parts
Hans StockerParticipantIsn´t this kitsch?

Hans StockerParticipantHaarlem Asperitas

Hans StockerParticipantBeautiful subtlety in the three former posts Keelin and Michael!
I am sorry to disturb the subtlety a bit with this…
