How wonderful everyone! Keelin your subtle, yet beautiful halo is a treat for the eyes. Especially with the contrail floating quietly by. And Hans your beautiful sun mermaid is a beautiful sight to see in the sky. And finally Michael, that is one amazing iridescent cloud. How did you happen to get such a picture? Below is an image that almost is a pair with Hans along with its little child.

Hello Marcia,

I believe Cavum clouds form when the droplets in a layer of cloud suddenly freeze into ice crystals and begin to fall (causing the fallstreak to form). This can happen when ice crystals fall onto the cloud layer from a higher cirrus cloud and cause the water droplets to freeze. This can also happen when planes fly near or above the cloud and allow their fuel to fall onto the lower cloud and cause the water droplets to freeze. Great photos by the way!

Thank you Hans for your reply. I believe that it is! Wow, I didn’t quite know what that was. I knew it must be something special, as it goes along with the rare circle. I do also believe that you have caught part of the parhelic circle. Congratulations!

Here I have a sundog(a relatively bright one at that) shining in the evening sky. I really hope you enjoy my little dog.

Wonderful sweeping cirrus, Keelin. It looks as though an artist has just taken his/her first stroke across the canvas that is our sky. And Hans, the purple color looks marvelous. I would have liked the rain that you said did not happen, as I do enjoy listening and sitting out in the rain.

Here is a picture from May 2019 after a decent-sized storm rolled over our town. You can see the mamma formations on the underbelly of the cloud. The overall swirl of the cloud is what I find the most captivating.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to start off by saying that I think all of your pictures are wonderful but one in particular caught my eye. Correct me if I’m wondering, but I believe Alan has caught some Jetstream clouds. Either way it is a wonderful capture.

I was going through the archives and have decided to do you this picture from a while ago. Just some wonderful orange colors brightening up the sky.

Hello Everyone,

Here’s the second collection of pictures from June of 2018 or 2019. It’s nothing really special in its own right, just a portion of a 22° halo. I think this one has something extra because of the wonderful contrast of the Cirrus and the lower Altocumulus. I remember getting out of my car thinking, “that is amazing!” I did brighten the first image a tiny bit, but otherwise no really big edits. Anyways I really hope you enjoy!!!

Love the shadow Keelin, I can see the outline of a person drifting thorough the clouds.

And Michael, that cumulus looks wonderful with the rats shooting out behind it. Well captured.
