Yes Keelin, that shot was taken at sunset, thereby diminishing whites to greys. The patterns fascinate me.

Thanks Hans, Yes that shot was taken near the end of an Asperitas event. You can see the rain approaching on the left side of the shot. It gave some contrast in lighting which is needed for the fine lines. Smoke signals are sooo strange which clouds are really good at.
