Hans…thank you! They were spectacular ! …and they just kept coming from the SE for an hour. I think I could’ve taken dozens of photos.

Ruth, I am amazed that you know so much so soon after joining CAS. You mentioned “Kelvin-Helmholtz” and  “lacunosus”, or perhaps “fallstreak holes”. Heck, I still don’t know what those are. Good work!

Rob, I appreciate the answer. I’ve seen this before….there’s a formation in the sky but nowhere is there any indication as to why it’s there. But, looking at the upper or lower weather gives the answer. Just like your explanation. Thank you!

The Snake River is way to the west…and this is pretty much all farm land. I’m attaching a map with some graphics to show you more detail. See if this will help. Thank you for your interest !

Not really. The cloud just stuck there for hours, then dissipated.  We’ve been dry for weeks now with no rain or snow. Well, except for last night’s 3 inches.

    Thank you!

Perhaps you can tell us where you are, what time of day, looking east/west, time of the year. These are helpful in narrowing down your choices.

So…it sounds like they can form over a mountain or hill, then move on from there, keeping their shape, as they move away from the mountain/hill. And, that might be what is going on here? Thank you.

There doesn’t seem to be enough of the cloud on the cumulus congestus photo to be able to ID properly. Id would be better to see almost all of the cloud before identifying.
