An extraordinary beauty, Hans! A priceless jewel that can never be stolen, and one you will always know where to find.

Having just looked back through my archives here, I notice my first post to the CAS forum is dated January 10, 2017. It amazes me how quickly and intensely my interest and appreciation has taken hold for the wonders of the beckoning sky. So much of this is due especially to the warm encouragement that you, Michael and Gavin have continued to offer. You all have my deepest gratitude.

Love the gentle camber, your Softscape, Hans. And the dark tones bring a sense of the  season yet to come. Autumn and Winter are my favorites, so it’s no surprise I found the cloudscape below reminding me of snowfall and Wintry wonderlands.

Thank you, Michael. Your detailed advice on camera options is much appreciated. And I’ll check out Adobe LightRoom as well. I would so much like to be able to capture the crispiness of clouds in instances such as the one shown below. Your Arizona Color#106 is good advertising for the camera you use. It’s a gorgeous shot.

Michael, you have transported us! Your #186 is as Hans has declared: FANTASTIC. Surreal beyond my wildest dreams — and they are hard to surpass.

And monsoon (Don) or no monsoon (Hans), impressive shots of magnificent skies above your noggins miles apart. Especially exciting to see as no rain is in sight for us here, and we are so dearly in need of it.

That said, there was a bit of cloud activity last week that caught and held my eye for a few breath-taking moments. The image below proved more intriguing once cropped.

It’s reassuring to see Billy in such excellent form, Hans. And he should have no worries (despite his mischievous reputation). No doubt he has made several friends during his capricious crossings of the pond. Here is one who awaits a reunion.

Indeed, Hans, were it not for the bird winging by, it would be impossible to sense the scale of the bold Cirrus cloud that dominated my sky view that afternoon. In your Separation Of Different Sizes, I suspect it is familiarity with these cloud types that offers a sensible sense of scale. No other reference point needed in your lovely capture there.

And thanks for your response regarding my growing desire for a better camera, especially the reminder about pixels/resolution. No doubt the choice will become easier once options are explored and I find out what’s available/affordable.

Below, more Cirrus with another little friend winging in the upper left for scale.

Stunning images, Laurence! Thanks so much for posting the links. Will you be joining CAS’s trek to Finland for a sighting? It’s too far a reach for me this time, but hopefully one of these years I’ll be able to sign on. I can’t imagine anything more magical than to see the night sky dancing in all its wild aurora colorations.

Same report here, Michael. No difference in saturation between viewing my photos on home computer and those appearing the forum. The deep colors I see in your Arizona Color #105, at least in my opinion, are just right and add an emotional component the tumultuous cloudscape. Very beautiful.

As for the Thick Lick Of Paint… SO tasty, Hans!

Below is a photo that came straight from my iPhone 5s with no color or contrast adjustments made. I don’t like the lens flare in the image, but left it untouched for this example.

Just recently, I’ve been thinking about getting a REAL camera (something simple, small and light weight) that would offer better resolution. Any suggestions/advice on this would be most welcome.

A warm welcome to you, Don. Your sepia photo above is quite splendid. You’ve captured a compelling illusion of motion there — as if those battered dragon wings have yet to lose all their flight power. Echoing Hans, I hope to see more from you here— and on other forum topics as well.

Wonderfully detailed texture in your Dragonskin, Hans! Very convincing.

What sleep might come with such a pillow as your Arizona Color#104? I should like to give it a try. Perchance to dream of joining Hans’s Cirrus Dance, leaping my way across the sky with an astonished ability to stay aloft.

Speaking of imagination…Oh my. It seems I mis-read your comment, Hans, and thought you wrote that the emerging being* in the distance has magical FEET. Then, when I saw the image in accompaniment, my eyebrows reached a new elevation of surprise.

    * I would like to see the rest of this creature!

Fantastic, Hans! The lines help to not lose the contrail count in such a crowdy sky. And 26 will be hard (maybe even impossible?) to beat.

Below, just one lonely trail quietly underscoring a faint Halo.

Every morning, I read comments to the CAS forum (delivered via email) before viewing the images online. And I must tell you, Hans, I couldn’t help but start smiling in anticipation when I read about the dogs barking. While I’ve come to expect clever replies from you (especially on this Looks-Like topic), sometimes I just have to laugh out loud when the image appears. That pack of pups is so perfect — and beyond funny!

    And now…

Thank you for casting the first spell, Hans, with a clever and regal looking Weathercock pointing the way. May the magic and mischief continue in all directions.

Indeed, Hans, the images Michael brought us above have the textural quality one would certainly not wish to smooth out. And now I wonder where your streamlined Scouts will lead? Off in the distance, some vision is being sketched into being.
