Patricia L KeelinParticipantSo amazing, Laurence! Thank you for posting the link along with your reflections of observing the moon in that “wondrous golden hue”. No doubt, such an experience as you’ve described, ‘twould have me howling in delight.
Patricia L KeelinParticipantRuth and Michael, you seem to be sharing the same sky in your latest images. But then, don’t we all? I wonder what transformations this little cloud will undergo as it swims through the Sea of Sky.
Little Fish, Big Pond
Patricia L KeelinParticipantThanks, Ruth, and same compliment to you on that pretty, pastel sunset shot over the river.
Could The State Of Florida be the start of a 50-cloud collection? For awhile now, I’ve been slowly gathering letterforms and symbols. Not quite halfway with the letters and only eight symbols, so still a bit to go.
Meanwhile, how old do you suppose these sky scratches might be?
Ancient Engravings
Patricia L KeelinParticipantNice subtle hint of color amidst the various grey tones in #411, Michael. The sense of movement has my eyes sliding side-to-side while the balanced composition holds me calmly in place. Intriguing effect!
Earth, Water, Air is a breathtaking drama in black and white, Hans. I love the way reflected light gives form to the sand before sea.
Awash In The Swash
Patricia L KeelinParticipantThank you, Ruth, and hope you’re keeping warm there. Your Man In Bucket is a wonderful photo. He may be closer to the clouds than if he were on terra firma, but it could be chilly up there. If only he had a companion and a song to take his mind off the cold while he waits. These trees seem to have the right idea…
Duet
Patricia L KeelinParticipantLove The Blue Hour (and clever title), Hans. And is that Billy peeking out on the left?
In the photo below, I count 23 crows. There a few ways to break this number down with some of their symbolic associations—not that I’m at all into numerology or even from the numerical (as in math science) end of the campus. That said, we could be looking at 5(a Fibonacci number) x 2(a major change for the better) + 10(a time of joyful bliss +3(a celebration). In conclusion, I would guess your guess is correct, Hans. Spirits soaring!

A Joyous Return To Looking Up!
Patricia L KeelinParticipantWow, Michael, what a fabulous photo is your #193! I can almost hear the wind—in both ears!
And Lisa, you’re likely to run into that new word often if you visit the looks-like topic. And what a splendid and welcome Ray of Hope you’ve presented—a light in the darkness, perhaps even in the deepest depth of the sea!
Below, maybe a little moonlight magic?
Jardin au Clair de Lune
Patricia L KeelinParticipantMichael, your Arizona Cloudscape #410 is hovering! Nice composition there.
Pass The Potatoes looks delicious, Ruth. Of course, I’ve never met a potato I didn’t like. :)
Yesterday, the clouds surprised me with a skyful of beauties. An ode to Autumn’s true arrival? The upper portion of this image looks to hold (or let Fall?) some interesting shapes.
Ghosts of Autumn Leaves
Patricia L KeelinParticipantLooks like your Three Little Pigs are on the trot, Ruth! Were they chasing this fellow? I think he’s fallen into a vat of suds—and apparently happy about it. Cheers!
Smurf In The Suds
Patricia L KeelinParticipantBilly Beard gave me a good tickle, Hans. I was laughing even before seeing the image, knowing it would amuse. And those Frost Flowers are beautiful.
Also like the composition and what looks like a cloud kite in your AZ#919, Michael.
And Ruth, your Big Popsicle reminded me of a song from childhood about sliding down a rainbow. I see it’s not too late to entertain that idea!
Asteria’s Pearl
Patricia L KeelinParticipantDanke je, Hans. There’s something tenderly amusing in the slightly dismayed looked of the wee character who Just Missed Halloween. But no worries. There will doubtless be another gathering next year, so plenty of time to come up with cloud-woven costumes.
Meanwhile, perhaps we can just drift along with a celestial version of Alaria esculenta, also known as dabberlocks, or quite simply…
Winged Kelp
Patricia L KeelinParticipantTickles certainly delivers the desired effect in a delightfully visual format, Lisa. Thanks for the good giggles.
And, in agreement, denouement is a perfect word for the occasion, Hans, especially as Lisa guided us to the next phase with her lovely visual lullaby in Deep Sleep.
As for Ripples and Holes what a striking image! With pareidolia permanently in place, I thought perhaps it was some multi-eyed creature. A wonder that would have me awonder if my underlying tendencies are showing up again. At least it looks friendly!
Michael, you’ve created an impressive sense of depth in #192, delivering that old grey magic again. Why do those bits and bobs always bring a sense of delight akin to a rain of confetti?
Ruth, while most images in the B&W folders do have an abstract quality, I hope that won’t dissuade you from visiting and continuing to contribute here. At first glance at this forum topic just a few years ago, I had no idea how quickly I would come to appreciate the untethered formations, cleverly captured and cropped, and presented primarily by Michael and Hans. Studying their photos has helped train my eye to see subtleties in cloud formations I would otherwise miss. If you scroll through the archives, you’re sure to find some images that are less abstract, so rest assured your Whirlpool is welcome! And I hope to see more from you here.
Below, I leave it to all to figure out. Is this an abstract image or…
The Hand Of Something Or Other?
Patricia L KeelinParticipantThanks for you timely reminder, Laurence. There should be good viewing of the Blue Moon here as we have clear skies. Ready to howl in gratitude for clean, crisp air and the celestial show tonight. Happy All Hallow’s Eve to all.
