    Amazon clouds

Amazon in pictures: Sebastião Salgado’s last frontier – BBC News

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-57162597

The second line is a copy and paste which again is not working (there is a padlock to the left of https), rather it is the article heading. The third line is a manual copy by me of the BBC’s link.

Well, there is a picture of cloudy smoke in the above link, trust me. Why does little work these days?

Britain gets cold shoulder as Russians roast in 30C | News | The Times

That should be a link with a fine picture and further words on jetstreams. In the hard copy there is an interesting jet stream diagram also but not on-line. More Grrr.

Ah, so. When I first Googled it there was an explanation, but Googling a second time, Google knows best so it would only give the picture not the explanation. Grrr.

I first saw the picture in The Times, UK, today with caption

“… storm gathering over a sunset … in the open road between the cities of Earth and Littlefield in Texas.”

Beautiful yet terrifying images show Monday’s storm as it arrived in Texas (mysanantonio.com)

    Not working again??? Fingers crossed.

    Jetstream

In The Times, UK, today the Met Office said “There is a warm side to the jet stream and a cold side and the southward shift leaves us on its cold side…”

The above was attached to a picture by Rachel Baker of Lake Pier in Poole, Dorset, UK, but not the Twitter one below. I wonder if it is CAS or Twitter that is preventing this showing as a link because I am not logged in to Twitter? Likewise another photo of hers on Facebook.

Rachel Baker on Twitter: “Purple haze sunset at Lake Pier, Poole @StormHour #potw #stormhour https://t.co/CkvW6WKsZW” / Twitter

    or even Google

rachel baker Lake Pier – Google Search

    Must be CAS???

Having logged out and back in, there is now a link showing but when you click on it Twitter says it does not exist!!!!!!!!

Hells Revenge Trail Review and Guide in Moab Utah 4k UHD – YouTube

As ever, the above is a link which does not copy to the CAS Forum for whatever reason. However if you Google ‘Hells Revenge’ you should get it OK. Or try Trailsoffroad.com

It is a video about about offroading but throughout there are heavenly Utah cloudscapes to be seen.

New dune form aurora, and blue aurora

Secrets behind nature’s spectacular shows in the sky | Register | The Times

The above is a link but again, it does not copy as a link. The article refers to bit.ly/33eaJ0M which you can copy and Google for the dune form.

bit.ly/3uhKX7D for the AGU Advances magazine article which published the dune form article.

    bit.ly/2SqEF7S for the blue aurora

All three bit.ly work for me.

    No Cloud of Chalk Dust

If you Google ‘Times Dim sun’ (sic) then the second result you get is this article from 8APR2021.

Space agency ditches Scopex plan to dim the sun with dust | News | The Times

    which when copied gives:
Space agency ditches Scopex plan to dim the sun … – The Times
    https://www.thetimes.co.uk › article › space-agency-ditche…

8 Apr 2021 — Sweden’s space agency has cancelled a project that would have assessed whether humanity could dim the sun and reverse global warming by …

Unfortunately Google has not been able to copy the 8AR2021 link. The link refers to another article in The Times 23MAR2021 ‘Bid to cool Earth with chalk dust’.

I just signed up for the Environment Newsletter at:

    thetimes.co.uk/newsletters
    which gave the link
    https://home.thetimes.co.uk/myNews

You might be interested. But as previously, these links don’t (always) copy to here. Google says
“It means that the (thetimes) website prevented Google from creating a page description, but didn’t actually hide the page from Google.”

If, from the second link above having sent off your newsletter request you take the top left ‘Back to today’s edition’ then the home page offers you another interesting article

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/how-much-do-you-really-know-about-the-climate-crisis-8jn7d03hd

which has opposing comments below it from Times readers.

No, I did not know of Zaria, Keelin but a quick look at your link shows a fantastic Arctic painting – I will check further. Thank you.

This shows why I thought clouds were related to Climate Change (Steve, please note):

    BUY THIS BOOK

Small Gases, Big Effect by David Nelles and Christian Serrer, self published for 5 Euros in Germany. In UK published by Allen Lane on March 25, 2021, (£7.99).

Climate Change for Beginners is the title of a major review in The Times (UK) Magazine March 13, 2021. Both German authors plan to become climate advisers on graduation this year, perhaps because their short book ‘…has lauded it over the best seller lists in Germany…’.

The review does not mention clouds per se but THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE is summarized in about 17 headings e.g.

“Increased rainfall and flooding.” … higher temperatures allow the air to hold more water vapour … allow more water to evaporate and thus higher precipitation … in an increasingly uneven distribution …

“Tropical cyclones are becoming more severe” as ocean surface temperatures rise.

Hey Michael. I joined CAS 26JAN2007 as #7173 and you joined not long after. You have been a major contributor ever since. Another major for many years was Andrew Kirk east of the Ca Sierras.
