Howard BrownParticipant
Mmmm, lovely, thanks guys.
Laurence, your picture was Wednesday’s Cloud in the archive, but did not carry the commentary – see if this gives it

P.S. Yes it does.
P.P.S. I really do know my hew from my hue – it was rather late…
Howard BrownParticipantHygge enjoyed the Penultimate Night of the Proms on Tango (Hygge does not enjoy the Last Night). There were even two jazz trumpet solo breaks which drew immediate applause!

So I looked up Argentina in the CAS Gallery and was amazed at the fantastic clouds:
And I did not know that Finland was hooked on the tango – we live and learn
Howard BrownParticipantLove the haiku, Keelin.
https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9780140444599/Love-Barley-Haiku-Basho-Penguin-0140444599/plp
I once trawled through this Penguin Classic on Basho for cloud related haiku and was slightly disappointed to find I noted only 7, e.g.
84
Clouds –
a chance to dodge
moon-viewing
161
Autumn – even
birds and clouds
look old
Howard BrownParticipantFor me, Hans, your ‘After the showers’ could be a type picture for my idea of a Cloudscape. It was GWW (Granny Weather Witch, a one-time frequent contributor from SW Ireland, and ex- Met Office) who always asked for pictures to include landscape so that she could more readily assess the height of clouds. I find I hanker after that and feel it might differentiate ‘scape from more abstract pictures.
But that is just my thought, and obviously contributors to this thread can submit anything they think fits the bill.

This references the subject cloud event. It goes on to describe in the same week ‘…. from Arcachon to Biarritz … a single thin cloud, no more than 200m wide… mid-morning…. for …. no more than 20 minutes…. pyramid-shaped…’
I make that about 80 miles along ‘the sandy beaches’, but I doubt this is a record length; what do you know?
Howard BrownParticipantRothko!
Thanks, Hans, I have been scratching my head all day trying to think of his name. But it wasn’t Keelin’s lovely pastel that was the cause, rather Michael’s Arizona Sunset#88 (August 24, 2018, above). Googling Rothko just now this came up
Howard BrownParticipantThanks for the memory, Hans.
Which makes me think that might become a CAS song:
‘Thanks for the memory
of square clouds in the sky
of cloud streets up on high….’
Any budding lyricists out there?

‘Of rainbows on a wave’?
Howard BrownParticipantHans, I don’t buy kitsch in the CAS world. To me this is a wonderful observation of nature in one of her infinite ways.
So my thanks to you, and to Michael for his response below, Arizona Sunset#88.
Howard BrownParticipantRamona, there is a box you can tick:
‘Notify me of follow-up replies via email’
following your post and before you ‘Submit’. I have not used it so do not know the ins and outs but it sounds like it may solve a problem for you.
August 24, 2018 at 11:51 pm in reply to: Unusual 'cloud streets' spotted over Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire #292124Howard BrownParticipantYea, verily, very nice indeed. They may not be uncommon in the UK but I don’t see many about….
Howard BrownParticipantSpot on George, thank you.
As a modern jazz fan, since there is not much of it about, I listen to classical music on BBC radio 3 without paying much attention to any linking words. But today ‘Luke Howard’ sank in and my ears pricked up

Howard BrownParticipantThoughts
* I don’t have any technical solution. I am not familiar with your concept of ‘this Forum folder’.
* I note this thread has been pushed down the LIFO stack to ninth in three days.
* I think you need to define your terms – I think of a ‘thread’ as the thing that is started by any post. You seem to think of a thread as the thing which has many posts and possibly subsequent volumes (on this forum) due to its popularity. You do not give a name to less popular (albeit interesting) posts (such as yours which I am replying to) apart from ‘the everyday Forum’.
* I do not really think of popular threads ‘cluttering up’ or ‘taking over’. Surely the LIFO concept gives any new post its moment of glory at the top – admittedly that means an infrequent viewer might have to go quite a way down the LIFO stack to find it.
* One technical help might be an indication of whether or not you personally have opened any given iteration of a thread. (Perhaps not unrelated to an e-mail notification of a new post which someone seemed to ask for quite recently – I personally would not want that in general; though it might be nice to be able to register an interest in one particular thread e.g. my Cloudscape!).
* P.S. I note an option is available below a post when you write/edit/reply ‘ Notify me of follow-up replies via email ‘.
Howard BrownParticipantAeolian satellite
I have been hearing on BBC Radio about this new satellite to study winds for meteorologists but oddly it does not google for me – although its lift off was delayed by winds….
I had forgotten the name relates to winds, but I doubt Michael has since he seems to get an annual dust storm in Phoenix
