ParticipantBilly Beard gave me a good tickle, Hans. I was laughing even before seeing the image, knowing it would amuse. And those Frost Flowers are beautiful.
Also like the composition and what looks like a cloud kite in your AZ#919, Michael.
And Ruth, your Big Popsicle reminded me of a song from childhood about sliding down a rainbow. I see it’s not too late to entertain that idea!

ParticipantDanke je, Hans. There’s something tenderly amusing in the slightly dismayed looked of the wee character who Just Missed Halloween. But no worries. There will doubtless be another gathering next year, so plenty of time to come up with cloud-woven costumes.
Meanwhile, perhaps we can just drift along with a celestial version of Alaria esculenta, also known as dabberlocks, or quite simply…

ParticipantTickles certainly delivers the desired effect in a delightfully visual format, Lisa. Thanks for the good giggles.
And, in agreement, denouement is a perfect word for the occasion, Hans, especially as Lisa guided us to the next phase with her lovely visual lullaby in Deep Sleep.
As for Ripples and Holes what a striking image! With pareidolia permanently in place, I thought perhaps it was some multi-eyed creature. A wonder that would have me awonder if my underlying tendencies are showing up again. At least it looks friendly!
Michael, you’ve created an impressive sense of depth in #192, delivering that old grey magic again. Why do those bits and bobs always bring a sense of delight akin to a rain of confetti?
Ruth, while most images in the B&W folders do have an abstract quality, I hope that won’t dissuade you from visiting and continuing to contribute here. At first glance at this forum topic just a few years ago, I had no idea how quickly I would come to appreciate the untethered formations, cleverly captured and cropped, and presented primarily by Michael and Hans. Studying their photos has helped train my eye to see subtleties in cloud formations I would otherwise miss. If you scroll through the archives, you’re sure to find some images that are less abstract, so rest assured your Whirlpool is welcome! And I hope to see more from you here.
Below, I leave it to all to figure out. Is this an abstract image or…

ParticipantThanks for you timely reminder, Laurence. There should be good viewing of the Blue Moon here as we have clear skies. Ready to howl in gratitude for clean, crisp air and the celestial show tonight. Happy All Hallow’s Eve to all.

ParticipantThat moon chip could be chased down with a fine microbrew flavored with a few traditional ingredients (e.g., Eye of Newt) gathered only by young witch apprentices in shade-dappled forests on nights of the full moon. Cheers & Happy Halloween to all!

PS: Don’t miss Michael’s beautiful ‘Happy Halloween’ photo in the Sunrise/Sunset topic folder and Hans’s foreboding storm cloud featured today on the CAS Gallery.

ParticipantThank you, Hans. I appreciate your plea for my favorite season to show it’s true form here. Your Autumn sky is a dramatic beauty, especially with the dark sea as a baseline. I want to inhale it.
And Ruth, your Scattered photo has gone 3D! One can almost reach into it and pluck a cloud from the sky.
The photo below can also fool the eye into thinking it’s a landscape with fog rolling in over the hills. But there is not a bit of it that is not of the sky.

ParticipantA perfect party disco ball, Hans! Love it. That should get everyone up and dancing. Well, almost everyone. This fellow looks like he’s not going to move away from the chips and dips just yet.
Maybe once he’s had his fill though, he’ll help your cute little terrier, Ruth. Wouldn’t want him to mistake his lost bone for a bit of skeleton at the party.
Chips And Dips

ParticipantLooks like there’s plenty of popcorn at the party.
Mr. Monster Gets The Munchies

ParticipantBeautiful composition in Here Comes The Sun, Ruth. That bit of reflection in the water is a perfect balance for the snowcapped mountains.
I like the linear look that Michael and Hans have going, so will add this close up of winter wrap made from the offerings of a shaggy old friend. Have you got one of these, Hans?

ParticipantHa! She’s ready to party now, Hans, but I wouldn’t get too close! Meanwhile, Ms. Hagamuffin is already rockin’ out on the dance floor…
Doin’ the Monster Mash

ParticipantWell, if your Mad Buffalo doesn’t get the party moving, I don’t know what will, Ruth. Took me a moment to see him, but then he was nearly upon me! What a great image incorporating the positive clouds and negative sky spaces.
This creature would also like to join in the fun… after she fixes a broken fingernail.
Get The Glue!

ParticipantMore than a month gone by with barely a cloud here, so the fine collection above is much appreciated. Some favorites include Ruth’s Window of Opportunity, Michael’s #408, and Hans’s Just Menacing (oh to see a skyful like that!).
Or one like this, extracted from the archives more than year and a season ago.
Come Back!
Patricia L Keelin
ParticipantMichael, your clear and crispy capture is like a murmuration of cloudlets. Breathtaking!
Lisa, Dendrite Disconnect reminds me of my foggy brain in the morning. A very clever title for your intriguing photo!
And what a fine mesh is your Neural Network, Hans! Definitely caffeinated. Just looking at it leaves me feeling energized. A habit, you ask? Perhaps!
Subconscious Tendencies

ParticipantLove the soaked feeling your #915 delivers, Michael. I can almost hear the downpour! Hoping for glorious rain followed by deeply breathable skies for you there. Meanwhile, I’ve seen proof the moon is still up there.

ParticipantHans, your Attempt To Dream On is such a beautiful image. It elicits a certain smile here as it so well reflects that yearning to continue enjoyable adventures.*
And Lisa, your Dream That Got Away effectively captures that fleeting moment of dream dissolution. Ah, I know it well! It’s also, on its own merits, a very interesting cloud photo.
As for painterly works, here is one with lighter, looser strokes of cloud brushes that brings to mind another form of art.
Interpretive Dance*Off topic, but hopefully helpful for anyone interested: There are actually a couple of reliable (as in scientifically tested) techniques discovered by Stephen LaBerge that can prolong the dream state. If anyone has an urge to look into these, be sure to read his original writings (on spinning and hand-rubbing while adream) as there is way too much misinformation about such things on some internet websites.
