Paul Bennett, member 47271 is new to the Cloud Appreciation Society and tells us he absolutely adores clouds
Ned Stern is a professional artist and received a degree in Fine Art from The American University in Washington. The main painting, above, is called “The Sea Awaits” and the one below is “Cloud Parade”.

Natalie Christensen is an award winning photographer whose focus is ordinary settings, seeking the sublime in colour fields and shadow. She now lives in New Mexico and like many artists, was drawn to the distinctive Southwestern light. The above piece is entitled “she had an idea”.

Nancy Cobbett, Member 55,438, shared her painting with us. She told us “Inspired by the view from Germany Valley, West Virginia USA , an amateur attempt to capture the constantly changing vista – with no brushes at hand I used cotton swabs and craft paints – you can’t keep a cloud watcher from expressing themselves!”
Murray Kirkland (Society member 36,227) is an artist based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
Monica Rees, Member 58,527, of California came across this concrete block whilst out walking and whilst not the artist, she told us about the Love the Bulb website which describes the area: “The Albany Bulb is a former construction debris landfill on San Francisco Bay where people have been making informal outdoor sculptures and paintings for decades, much of it on large concrete blocks. It’s home to 150 species of birds, huge trees, wildflowers, amazing views, and lots of walking trails.”
Mick Garton, member 11,554, painted this stormy morning crossing of the (now old) Forth Road Bridge towards Edinburgh in mixed acrylic/watercolour in 2012
Michael Pockley, Member 63,102 recently painted this sunrise over the forest, as seen from his bedroom in Bohemia. He told us his paintings “are not simply about the clouds themselves but about the manner in which the water vapour in the atmosphere interacts with the sun”.
Melody Serra, Member 56,638 told us “This is a sketch overlaid on sky blue hot press paper. The sketch was made on a clear day in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco”.
Matthias Scholl is a talented artist with great enthusiasm for Clouds.
Martin Pilcher, Member 3,838, sent this painting and told us “during the Covid Lockdown in the UK, I found myself looking at photos from Africa and dreaming that I was on safari…..and so I picked up my paintbrush instead of my passport”.
Mark Bricknell, Member 13,136 is a photographer who appreciates the beauty and ephemeral nature of clouds.
He told us “I have taken some images and would like to share them with the other members. This work is an appreciation of the photographer Alfred Stieglitz whose work in 1922 called ‘Equivalents’ has always been an inspiration to me..! The exact location of longitude and latitude is on the poster”.
Marilyn Murphy, Member 41,144, is an Artist and Professor of Art Emerita at Vanderbilt University. This is one of her graphite drawings entitled “Air and Dreams”.

She also has a solo exhibition at the Haley Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee with some of her cloud series, including the one above. The exhibition also includes 19 of her relief prints. It opened on 24 February and will be up until 22 March 2024
Malcolm Wilson, member 41,548, painted this scene using oils on canvas of the clouds above Cumbria. It is 3.5 metres long and is to hang in a public room of a Grade 2 Listed Hotel.
Malcolm Tuffnell, member 55,301, tells us he has always been in awe of thunderstorms, especially squall lines, and saw many of them while living on the east coast for nine years.
Maia Eden is an artist who recently started a new upcycling business which includes painting furniture. She has just completed this commission for a teenage girl’s chest of drawers.

Author and artist Lucretia Bingham, member 53,512, features clouds in most of her paintings and this one was inspired by a camping trip in early Autumn.
Louise Morgan, member 28,857, painted this scene depicting high cirrus clouds and a light mist on a frosty morning.
Louise Morgan, member 28,857, sent this painting in response to a recent Cloud-a-Day. She paints from her subconcious and gets lost in the process. She told us her daughter thought this looked like a sheep.
Louise Morgan, Society member 28,857, contacted us following a recent Cloud-a-Day on the subject of the English Romantic landscape painters JMW Turner and John Constable were notorious rivals but who both loved painting clouds and the challenge of painting rainbows.
Lisa Wlaschek, Member 66,689 recently sent us an example of her artwork. She told us, “I draw myself as round objects for self-expression. Lately as an onion and now also as clouds, inspired by my recent membership signup to the Society”

Lionel Playford, member 22010, has been studying clouds and the sky in drawing and painting for nearly 50 years as a landscape artist.
Linda Pearlman Karlsberg, member 40985, is an avid cloudspotter, gazer and lover. Her artwork has been focused on the sky for quite a while.

Kelly Money is an artist from New Hope, Pennsylvania. The main focus of her work is clouds and although her subject may be singular, her style is not
Katie Millard, society member 48293, is an artist who paints the beautiful coastline of North Norfolk in the UK.
Kathleen Grace Bennett, Member 20,977 told us her favourite thing is to paint clouds. She lives along the New England coast of the US and this is one of her oil paintings entitled “Sunrise Splendor”.

Kathleen Bennett, member 20,977, recently completed this oil painting inspired by a sunrise along the New England coast in Salisbury Beach, MA.
This is a recent cloud study by Kate Edge, Member 30,633. It’s entitled Harbour Village View , Goodwick, Pembrokeshire. Kate is currently working on a series of cloud paintings using the landscape and skies around Pembrokeshire, where she lives, as inspiration.

Karen Fitzgerald, member 40,834, sent us this paining on a black background. She tells us this is how she thinks of clouds in the night sky and what they may be imagining if they could.
Justin Auld, Member 29,902, is an artist working in Portland OR who specializes in painting clouds and their ability to suggest images and faces. Hispaintings are named Quantum Paintings for the tie in that he explorse about how, in the quantum environment, nothing exists without an observer. He told us “I use clouds as a vehicle to create a recognizable foundation for the viewer to engage with a seemingly normal cloudscape, but then by inserting faint suggestions of faces and forms within the viewer is then compelled to search for more imagery that is created by their own minds“

Julia Dedier, Member 63,285, specialises in cloud art. These examples are painted in oil on canvas. Her website states “I want to convey the greatness and unique beauty of the clouds, inspiring people to slow down, reflect on the invisible wonders of the sky, and savor the moment of presence”.
