Participantand a few days earlier, while in astoria, i stepped out of my motel room and looked up to see this bridge to the heavens

Participantyou folks have certainly been busy while i was away — here’s a high sky over fort rock that i came across one late afternoon last week while poking around the oregon high desert

Participanthans, that is one mesmerizing ‘glimpse’ you have there. …. other worldly — at first glimpse it appears i am looking out a plane window thru some scattered cumulus toward a field of lenticularus ….. or am i seeing something else?
here’s a dramatic storm cloud that fortuitously swept over a spur called pigeon butte that i went out to photograph last week
and a second pic tracking it as it head east

Participantthanks, hans — you make a good point about the ir effect that i hadn’t considered before …… it appears that the ir picks up more of the ice crystal reflections that we can see with the naked eye, thus ‘thickening’ its appearance, as you say

Participantand this?

Participantan evening in the northwest — could those be nacreous clouds? hard to say in b+w i suppose
Richard Bergeman
Participanthere’s one that sure looks like something — does it make you think of anything (maybe a flying fish)? kinda looks like a familiar bug but i can’t put my finger on it

Participantcloud fire — at least this one is not as dangerous as the wildfires we’ve been having around here lately

Participantyou clearly have a lot of sky to play with out there in arizona, michael — looks like a lot of fun ….. saw some neat things in the cloudscape forum as well today ….. here’s something i saw while out on the coast, having lunch in the park where the old decommissioned lighthouse sits in newport, oregon
lighthouse eruptions

Participantthanks, ruth, for the kind remarks — and in return, i quite like the dissembling space ship
here’s a rather explosive cloud spied off the long beach peninsula in washington state

Participantdragon’s breath?
Richard Bergeman
Participanti like your cloudscape, ruth — makes one feel like taking a peaceful drive to nowhere in particular ….. here’s a cloudscape with cumulus mediocris (i think) hovering over a white oak savannah in the land of the yamhill kalapuya
Richard Bergeman
Participantnot sure it’s really a ‘thing’, but my immediate reaction while i photographed this one last week was “emanations from a think tank”

Participantlately i’ve been trying to see our fair valley through the eyes of the kalapuyan people who lived here before the great western migration pushed them out to reservations on the margins …… in an attempt to avoid obvious elements of modernity, i’ve decided to take aim at the skies over their former lands (an example was the ‘low ceiling over a refuge’ i posted last month, taken on the former land of the yamhills)
this new one has a longish title — ‘view over the willamette from the land of the luckiamute kalapuya to the land of the santiam’
