This is an interesting question you put forward Ramona. The images are clear and I can see what happens. What I know (you can find it in Wikipedia) is that super cooled droplets in the altocumulus layer need ice nuclei to crystallize to start the process of the formation of a fallstreak hole. Usually it is a plane that causes the start of the process. Never thought it could also happen this way but yet we can both see it on the images. I suppose / assume that the droplets in the growing cumulus provide for the needed nuclei to trigger the fallstreaks to form.

I am curious for other opinions. Thanks for sharing this one Ramona.

Yes, time for a lullaby Ruth. I love your Back To Present and Always A wonder. It is in the name. And Michael your last ones are fabulous and the ones I love most are #821 and #824.
After a lullaby and when the sun is set this Volume reaches the magical number 100. So volume IX has to rise soon.

Wow, some great halos by you two, Ruth and Keelin. And Keelin also a great one on the gallery. In envy you, because for some reason they seem to hide for me lately. But a sundog can’t pass without being noticed.

Let the clouds cheer you up Michael. Unfortunately there is lot to be sad about nowadays.

i checked the book The Book of Barely Imagined Beings by Caspar Henderson. Seems to be fantastic and this one reminds of The Deep by Claire Nouvian. It is amazing what strange forms creature can have underneath your marvelous Abyssal Depth.

No creature here but a B&W cloudscape.

Welcome Kathleen. What a wonderful trail you spotted just through the hole of a curly cloud. That must have been a matter of precision flying.

A scary Cobra Contrail is it that you spotted Ruth.

Great to see you have spotted already twice CVI in a contrail Keelin. In my opinion that one can be ticked off for you…..

Many thanks Keelin for help. This site seems to have A Mind Of Its Own, but with your guidance it couldn’t prevent me anymore to upload a new B&W. You can understand that this one was a dream way before yesternight.

‘Basking in he warmth’ is fantastic Keelin. Do I mistake or is there also a 22 degrees halo at play?

I really love your ‘Gentle rain’ Ruth. And a great horseshoe vortex as well. You have been lucky!

And now I have some trouble to upload a picture. That’s a pity. I will try later.

Unless anyone thinks different, I think you spotted a lovely Altomulus lenticularis sky Miriam. I love the wave-like structure and the gentle shapes they have.

That’s a great redbow you spotted Dr. No. And, yes it is a pity that the atoptics site isn’t available anymore, now already for some time. I truly hope some alternative will pop-up.
