ParticipantYes Keelin I like the contrasts there in F&F..Very active for the mind…That is fun.
I see clouds as having infinite potential. I try to free up my vision to see potentials and if I do see interesting developing, to take the shot with a fair amount of trust that nature will be evident. So it is with positive and negative space balancing especially in B&W.By taking tons of pictures a photographer develops that eye for interesting along with a knowledge of balancing the positive and negative space . Directing the eye thru a photo is almost an automatic for me. I still like to experiment. The shot below , I play with the positive and negative a bit, interchange their roles for some fun. Again, clouds seem to afford for a lot of experiment and reversal of norms. From one moment to the next a cloud can be dark and then bright.

ParticipantHans, That shot is of just a portion of an angry monsoon cell that pushed into the valley sending tornado warning alerts and flash flooding warning over the medias. I was outside taking pictures so I never heard the warnings. It became full Nimbus with green flashes. I sent in a pic . Never saw it make it to the gallery. Maybe its in the App, which It don’t have a smart phone for. Anyway the Nimbus eventually blew out, lots of wind and dust and some rain. Heres a shot of the anvil spreading overhead.

Participantsince you asked Keelin

ParticipantHans, yes,,a before and after set of a wild session. The above shot is before that area of cloud kinda exploded which you see in the cloudscape shot. The below .. was but a herald for the above et al. Its a shot of asperiats with a thin duplicatus undulatus running underneath( i think) In any case it was some mixed up weather severely challenging me to record as much as I could.

ParticipantKeelin, yes, I’ve seen too many clouds created by fires below. They get that undulating wisp look as they stretch out over distance. They are one of the few clouds one can taste and smell as well. I see wild fires dotting all over the northern California map, so sorry. I know they are inevitable here in Az, especially as the Monsoon season brings along the lightning.
