    Hi Stephen

This is a lovely shot indeed.

I like the way you have captured the play of light on the flooded landscape and the clouds above. Most commendable.

I am very fond on monochrome photography, especially when employed for portraiture and landscape. When used intelligently, as so in your shot, it beats colour photography hands down.

I will be taking time out to view your photo gallery – you have marvellous work on display. Thanks much.

    Laurence

Stephen, I took up your invitation to see your photo gallery – and mighty I did so! Wonderful photos indeed – a real pleasure to view. Your photographic command is highly commendable in no small way!

I especially like your monochromatic photos. Your photos confirm what I always have felt, and still feel, in that they somehow beat colour even though what we see, via our eyes, is in colour. I think monochrome when used for landscape (including clouds) and portraiture takes a lot of overcoming.

    Thanks again.

No filtration at the time of taking the image – but subsequent (modest) tonal adjustments are made in PhotoShop to emphasise the impact of the sky.

  2. Laurence Green avatar Laurence Green says:

A good monochrome photo, especially when used for landscapes, portraiture etc, takes some beating. This is one such example. Did you use an orange or red filter when taking this view to accenturate the drama in the clouds ? Great shot, Stephen.

  1. These are amazing – like a Mandelbrot Set they get more detailed the more you zoom in!

  2. Andrew Kirk says:

Leave it to the Eastern Sierra to generate unique clouds. Thanks, Stephen.

I missed this when it was first posted. I’m so glad it showed up on the home page slide show. It’s both lovely and spooky [Chris nailed that]. The little red lenticular cloud looks as though it crashed the scene. I gave it a score of 5 for those arresting qualities.

  2. Chris Oakley avatar Chris Oakley says:

    Now, that’s spooky!

  2. A terrific panorama, Stephen. That rain seems to have washed all the haze out of the sky and left it supernaturallly clear and luminous.
