Jocelyn NortheyParticipant
Hi all! I downloaded Lightroom and subscribed to Lightroom Plan, but I am not sure if it is the right LR. This is the photo organiser and does not come with photoshop. However it does come with 1T of cloud storage. Hans mentioned that I might still need an external storage device. I had a 4 year old, never used 3T WD Passport for Mac, that I bought for my partner and it was never used. So today I decided to use it, but found it is no longer compatible with Mac Catalina OS. It cost $350AUD so I am ultra annoyed.
Michael said he uses cheap disks, however there does not seem to be any cheap ones here that run on the Mac OS. Any suggestion of external devices that are compatible?

Jocelyn NortheyParticipantRuth I think this site desperately needs an FAQ. I add the text first and then upload the image, if that helps. I also found that there is a very short window of opportunity to edit comments. Your sunset seems fitting for a quiet end of the day. With a worldwide lockdown, maybe even the sunsets have decided to Stay Home!
Keelin indeed it is fantastic to see clouds from all over the world and I must admit to a certain amount of cloud envy. Your haiku brings peace to a troubled world, as well as a sweet, soft hues at the end of the day. Speaking of dreaming here is my early morning glimpse of a moon, high overhead at sunrise.
Straight on Till Morning
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantKeelin and Hans such lovely soft images. Keelin it seems that contrail wanted to shake things up somewhat.
Tonight was cold and misty and yet the sunset wanted to show the beauty of the clouds.
Soft, softly
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantTo me they look like eyebrow clouds. This is not a learned response, as I am rather new to this site. However Hans Stocker added one a few replies ago. To view scroll up. CAS would like to call this cloud formation supersciliaris.
but then again it might just be something else. Good like in your endeavours to find out more about these intriquing clouds. I shall be watching with interest.
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantThank you Hans. Lightroom sounds close to what I want. After Michael replied I checked the price of both SSD and HDD in Australia. Here SSD cost upward from $200 and HDD not much cheaper at $120 for 1T. It seems Macs are more expensive here.
I was intriqued by Michael’s system of numbering images and that got me thinking of all my images strewn over many portable hard drives. Like Michael I also shoot in Raw, but for a more portable solution, I upgraded my phone to i-phone 11 Max Pro. Getting older it is hard to lug around a 3kilo camera when out walking. It seems a pity with all the renewed interest in photograhy via smartphones, someone hasn’t come up with a better storage system for avid special interest buffs, be it clouds, train or anything else.
I have tried Google Photo and run it on some of my devices. In the meantime I will trial lightroom and still think about backing up on an SSD
Cheers, Joss
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantThank you for sharing your sysyem Michael. I thought that this was probably the answer and I have done the same in the past. After having difficulties with Windows 10 in 2015, both my partner and I changed over to Apple Macbooks. This meant all my old images are stored on portable drives, which are just another thing I have to worry about in the ever increasing event of natural disasters. Bushfires are a ever present threat where I live. I was hoping to find a cloud storage site. However I do think putting them on disc is the best thing to do.
I am intrigued by how you tag your images, which I must confess I have never done on a back-up drive. I do tag in Flickr. I use a Canon DSLR with various lens.
I am still struggling with Dropbox, but need to improve before spending another $200pa on subscription.cheers, JN
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantYou are right Ruth. Learning is fun and a good thing to do right now. Looking to the skies daily lifts my spirits and makes everything else look so much better. Besides everyone had to start somewhere. I found the Cloud Spotter app on a weather page on Facebook. I am so happy I did.
Jocelyn NortheyParticipant<p style=”text-align: right;”>Another view of it</p>
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantI took this image this morning. I was trying to capture undulatus for CloudSpotter but forgot I had to click on the button on the app instead of the phone.
However when I looked at the image it looked different to what I saw with the naked eye. The main section of the cloud looks like a reverse nettingnJocelyn NortheyParticipantYes Keelin I agree. I like your warm touch, like a special embrace from a dear friend.I do like the blues you get in your images.
Ruth your sky has patches of warmth like many small campfires to keep one warm front and back.
Today’s effort; Over the Hills and Far Away
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantThank you Hans. I am only on the wrong side for sunsets, therefore sunrises are my speciality. Lovely to meet/see you Keelin. I have been going over some of your previous posts and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Lovely images from Hans, Keelin and Daniel. I was quite depressed over the Lockdown, but cloud chasing has really lifted my spirits as well as my eyes. Thank you to all who take time to share their images and knowledge here. Your generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated.
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantLovely golden Dallas sunset there Don. Sadly I am on the wrong side of mountain to get the direct sunset shots. I should look for a better place to view them.
Donatella your Puget Sound images are great. I guess you get some pretty spectacular clouds there
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantThanks Don, I am already a member of that group. However the area I live in is very different to that group. I live in the north-east among the hills and valleys.
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantI like the AI at A Cloud aDay as an identifier tool for newcomers like me. I learn visually and I find it gives me confidence.
A FAQ too as I find this site a learn as you go experience.
Maybe have different level of experience?
Also an educational element
Good luck in your endeavours
Jocelyn NortheyParticipantThank you Don and Hans. Such lovely images. Don the soft pastels are lovely and like a lot of clouds we see around here. Hans your colours really stand out among the tree branches. Almost like a colour gradient.
My image was taken about thirty minutes after the sun went down behind a hill in the West. The last rays lit up two clouds on the opposite Eastern side. The sunlit clouds cast a rose glow upward and left blue shadows on either side of the image.
