Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymaster
Ashley,
We still have one in the office. If you send Selina an email to shop@cloudappreciationsociety.org she’ll let you know about getting it. They are indeed collector’s items!Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterCarol, You’ve probably worked it out by now, but the way Periscope works is that you get a notification when someone you follow is doing a scope. If you can’t watch it live, the scope is automatically available on the Periscope server to watch within the next 24 hours. So the time difference is not an issue. I haven’t been doing any scopes recently, as I have been so busy with preparing for the CAS Conference. I am, however, hoping to stream content from the conference using Periscope for those who are unable to attend. Have you found Periscope interesting?
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterGavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterCarol, if you follow @CloudAppSoc on Periscope, the new live-stream video platform from Twitter, you’ll be able to see me talk about interesting clouds over England. You just need to get the Periscope app (for iOS or Android). It has only been going for 2 months, and is an amazing way to see what is happening right now on the other side of the world. I’m doing a scope when I get a chance and there is something interesting in the sky to talk about.
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterI’ve corrected your pension typo, Hygge.
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterI popped in to the BBC studio near me in Taunton, Somerset, UK, for a quick chat about it on The Today Programme (it is here on BBC iPlayer, in the last three minutes of the programme). Right after coming out, the clouds parted to reveal a great view of the eclipse. The Altostratus and patches of lower cloud were not only helpful in shielding the glare, since I didn’t have any eclipse glasses with me, they also produced a rather pleasing corona.
(Anyone unfamiliar with this optical effect can see examples of coronas on the gallery here.)Also, a great photo of the eclipse viewed from east Yorkshire was submitted to the photo gallery by Bob Carter.
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterThat’s a great idea for a topic, Bastian. The window of a plane is a fantastic place for cloudspotting. We’d love to see what people post.
Here are some of the above-the-clouds photographs from the gallery for inspiration:
“Above The Clouds”Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterTom, can you link to images here in the forum so that members can give their comments?
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterThose are nice distrail photos, Isabel. In this case it is better to post the link to your Album rather than one photo:

Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterIt’s a great one, Andy. Out on the water, with no obstructions to the sky, is always a great place for cloudspotting.
If you use the ‘img’ button and enter the image URL (instead of just pasting it in the message) it will appear as an image like this:
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterI’ve taken the date out of the title to avoid confusion.
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterGinny and Mike, it now looks as if we are going to be having the conference later in the year. This is because we’re looking at a different venue. The one for 30 May was going to mean that the conference had to be in the evening, rather than the day. This meant the event would be too rushed.
I am negotiating with a different, and better, venue. If this works out, the conference will be taking place towards the end of September – probably during the day on Saturday 26 September.
I hope the change of date isn’t going to cause problems for anyone – hopefully, it will mean that there’s more time for those coming from abroad are better able to plan their trips.
We will, of course, email confirmation of the date and venue as soon as we have these locked down.
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterThat’s great news, Mike. Many thanks. It would be a real help if you can take a look whenever you happen to have a moment. I have made you a Moderator, and will invite you to join the Moderators private group. Best wishes!
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterColin, I just had a look at the sharing options on your Flickr page. The likely solution would be to click on the ‘Share’ button for the image you want to include and then get the ‘HTML’ or the ‘BBCode’ code. When I tried to do this, however, it said “Sharing is restricted for this image”. Might you be able to change the settings for your Flickr page so that you can try pasting these sharing codes instead?
Gavin Pretor-PinneyKeymasterAndrew, you uploaded your image fine, but it looks as if you didn’t copy the url and enter it into your forum post correctly.
When you’ve uploaded an image into your Album, you have to:
1) Click on the thumbnail of the image so that the image shows full-size
2) Copy the url of this full-size image: right-click on it and select ‘copy image url’ or ‘copy image location’ from the menu.
3) Add the image to your post by using the ‘img’ button (above the field you type into) and pasting the url. It will appear within the editing window as code until you click ‘submit’, when it will appear within the published post like this: -
