Yeah, I knew it was tricky. I will note the use of the two different ‘Upload Picture’, MikeL, I think that must have been one of my problems. (I was pressing everything and taken by surprise when something happened. I suspect there is a time lag as well).

Vick, when you click on ‘The Cloud Forum’ you always go to the index and the first item is always ‘Uploading an image’. But I have struggled with it coming from my Windows Picture Library.

One thing I do know is that when you ‘Submit’ (yellow box, bottom right) your post you can edit it as many times as you like, but there is a time limit set – currently one hour, I think.

Dying to see you pictures, now, Vicki!

    Good Luck ‘H’

This is a second NYD picture (more as an exercise for me in how to post images). The previous one was looking NW (I will try again since it failed), this one is looking South with my now familiar cedrus deodora:

    Previous NW picture:

OK – so it remains for me to work out why one is in-line and one aint.

Kind of Blue – the biggest selling jazz record

I was amazed that the last clip of 2015 on BBC Witness was an interview with Jimmy Cobb, drummer for Miles Davis in 1959:

(Sorry, but I might find the clip again if I put it here).

    Mellow Yellow

    Yellow warning for rain
    Valid 1800 on Fri 1 Jan 2016 to 1500 on Sun 3 Jan 2016
An area of low pressure will bring spells of persistent and at times heavy rain through
Friday and Saturday for SW England and S Wales before weakening.
The above also applied earlier on 1JAN16. Hence much pannus:

Ah, well. Close. The failed link does not look right e.g. http & https!

Lovely stuff, Mike, thank you. You chose the best day of the week. In spite of El Nino and the Jetstream not being this far south it must have been a windy tow?

Have you considered copyiny your ‘Above The Clouds’ videos to that thread? It would keep the thread alive and also your videos which will get forgotten in O&E, especially when #36 starts.

GoPro is new to me but got a good write up for drones:

which I browsed in a waiting room.

I am not strong on these things, but would not Apple’s iCloud be good for album storage for a certain subset of people?

    CHRISTMAS MOON

A full moon, the first for 38 years, and not again until 2034 (writes Paul Simons, The Times Dec22 2015). It rises 4.30pm (GMT I suppose, at Greenwich, longitude 0 degrees).

But the colour is an illusion – it is not particularly luminous and is actually a dull, dirty grey colour. A video explaining the illusion is at http://bit.ly/1RWdaK5 (but these type of links never work for me).

Two days before and after full, it is only half as bright. The larger appearance on the horizon is also an illusion.

    Regardless – enjoy.

    Peace and goodwill to all.

P.S. I’ll be… That link works for me! It didn’t when I googled it. You live and learn.

Right on, Gini, and I love ‘fragmented fractals – MikeL master of monochrome.

Your last one, MikeL, #86481, has so much intrigue in the top left in contrast to the ghostly wraiths. Your pictures transcend the casual photo and become works of art.

    Many Thanks for them all.

    Cloud painters?

About half way thru this link a famed illustrator of butterflies etc (whose name I did not catch) said painters were chosen over photographers for books since they could control the light better and were not at the mercy of technology (or words to that effect). Discuss.

The Constable painting Cloud Study in the V&A comes to mind, but do you know of others? It was a study of cirrus clouds c.1822.

Joseph Spence opened Late Junction on BBC Radio 3 tonight with Santa Claus is Coming to Town. But the links don’t work, at least yet (it is still live). You could google it for fun but don’t expect hi fi.

Almost a year since I boarded the CAS New Forum.

I was intrigued this morning to hear a discussion of my new username ‘hygge’. If you really want to know how to pronounce it, it is spoken by a Dane in this link. I only heard the last few minutes of the item which finished around 10.32:

This is an Andrew Kirk photo from the CAS Gallery. It was posted Christmas Day 2013 so seems suitable here:

AK’s photo also appears as the January picture in the 2015 CAS Calendar with an interesting caption which mentions alpenglow. I have my 2016 version and have resisted the temptation to peek but have high expectations.

Daniel, I am saddened at what I might have missed when passing through Las Vegas way back in ancient times, BC – Before CAS. You had your eyes on some lovely sky. I remember late in the evening in the motel being startled by the loud roar of a fighter jet taking off, then again as it turned on the after-burner. So looking at my NG Road Atlas right now I guess I was in the north-east near Nellis Air Force Base; the motel staff said it was a regular occurrence as the pilots who had flown in for dinner set off for their home base.

I fear I had to google Wiki for Lord Voldemort, but I get your point – sounds like the sort of chap who would certainly turn on his after-burners if he had them.
