Their lifespan is short due to their delicate structure.To see them you almost have to hunt them. Ruth,Clouds you wish not to see but they keep showing up in the skies, ..Is the smoke local or from distant burns?

Thanks Bill. The north hills of the Valley ,that is Phoenix, greet the monsoon season by displaying shows of towering congestus some succeed all the way to nimbus. But along the way a lot ,or a few, pileus are created . The contrast of such a delicate expression by raw unleashed power fascinates. It takes days of 110f to pull up the moisture from the subtropics and if you’re really lucky a dust storm, haboo, accomplices the show. I don’t think humans were meant to go out in this weather that creates pileus but I use a zoom telephoto lens when I do which reaches out pretty far at the 300mm end.

Hello Marie. My name is Mike . I live in Phoenix Az. We have a monsoon season from July to September and I’ve seen examples of what you have captured. I think wind is the key element. Winds pushing around sluggish cumulus creates a lot of eddies and whirlpools where clouds in transition take place. Below are two pictures of the same general direction maybe 15 minutes apart. Stratus manifests itself around convectus and nimbus cumulus. When I see that I fear for some heavy rain before its over. So I think you caught some humidty getting condescended out of the atmosphere on its way to be a whole sheet of stratus…or fail in trying. The winds may have proved to be too much.
