The 21st vol went fast. Losts of fun! Finished up with some overhead undulatus by Ruth.
Let me start Vol 22 with some high cirrus putting on a show.

Thanks for starting this new volume with such a great cirrus show, Michael.

My mom called thick fog ” Soupy”.
January 19, 2023 at 3:36 am #562395
Ruth, “Thick as pea soup!” is the way I heard it. Quite a nice shot.

A great start to Volume XXII, Michael, Hans and Ruth! Can’t wait to see all the mysterious, magical, fine art of cloud forms to come from each of you.
The Sense of Something Sudden
January 21, 2023 at 11:34 pm #562657
Michael, I love pea soup. B&W can be a challenge for me. Glad you liked my fog.
Keelin, hoping CA weather is improving. Sense of Something may come to fruition.

Ruth , Like Science Fiction..!
February 4, 2023 at 2:09 am #564181
Ruth, your clever titles suggest some good times in your skies there—despite all those dark clouds. You seem to find the beauty in any weather as your recent photos on the Gallery show too.
Michael, I’d also like to run through #224 on a hot day — so inviting! Love the gentle gesture in #225.
February 4, 2023 at 5:29 pm #564225
I agree with Michael that your Mamma Fun is like science fiction Ruth. Love it.
Great gentle movements in Arizona #225, Michael. Must be a coincidence but the swirly movements resonate in Toupee, by Keelin. Someone must be desperate.
February 6, 2023 at 2:38 am #564355
Thanks Keelin and Hans. Nice capture of greys in Toupee and incredible laconosus captured in high contrast Predation.

Ruth,Big Sky !
February 19, 2023 at 3:08 am #565614
Michael, those softly flowing clouds are absolutely exquisite.
Ruth, I can imagine the ground shaking when your Big Fella strolled on by.
And Hans, that’s some voracious creature you caught there! This looks like something he might have chewed on…

Thanks Michael and Keelin. A lot of amazing B&W’s above. Beyond Recognition is very funny, Keelin. And #3232 is a great sculpture of waterdroplets Michael. I like your wavy ones (#226 and #228) also very much. Great vista in Big Fella, Ruth. Is that the place where the crescent moon watches?

Hans, you are correct about the best place to watch a crescent moon. They can be sneaky. Your passer-by is a super shot of virga I believe.
Keelin, Beyond Recognition is got everything going for it. That’s a keeper.
Michael, #231 is fun to figure out. What type of cloud would you say?
Bowl Of Cottage Cheese
March 13, 2023 at 12:51 am #567559
Oh, indeed, this topic never fails to amaze! From Ruth’s Simple Pleasure to Hans’s Passers-by, with Michael’s wild shots spanning the spectrum of what’s possible up there, it’s all quite remarkable and keeps us gazing agog, wondering just what we’re seeing sometimes.
The Illusion of a Distant Mountain
March 14, 2023 at 3:43 am #567620
Nice Illusion Keelin, painterly! To answer your question Ruth..howabout..Filigree..the wind blown filigree cloud..There s an idea for a line of cloud jewelry. It was cumulus that got quickly shredded by some winds. Wolves I tell you.
March 14, 2023 at 7:53 pm #567694
Michael, I am still enjoying your above evaluations. I believe in wolves out there!!

Michael, wonderful virga in #236. Mystical.
April 1, 2023 at 6:16 am #569210
Thanks Ruth, yes it was almost mystical watching the clouds align up as they did. When I processed the shot I still couldn’t believe it.

Hans,Looks like the two contrails are the only things holding the sky back .
April 8, 2023 at 7:18 pm #569813
Hans, I think you might be up there on the moon.
Michael, that is one big cauliflower. Super fun photo.

As a new member, I’m enjoying seeing the work of everyone in the group. I’m especially fond of black and white photography, so I’ll add one of mine from a couple of years ago. A thunderstorm in Weld County Colorado, north of Greeley. I’m looking forward to getting some fresh images when our thunderstorm season gets going in a few weeks.

Bill, a big welcome to CAS. The forums are so fun and informative. Beautiful cumulonimbus you captured.
April 10, 2023 at 4:23 am #569974
Welcome Bill!..Nice shot! Have fun. Down here in Az we got a Pineapple Monsoon this winter so it didn’t really stop storming. The local lakes got filled up with all the clouds tho. Good fortune!
April 10, 2023 at 5:43 pm #570001
Michael, is #241 related to #242? Meaty clouds.

Ruth, Yes both pics where shot during the same late afternoon event. Did 241 evolve into 242? possibly, but I cant guarantee it.

Beautiful & Wonderful additions to the ever-captivating B&W series by the usual suspects.
And a warm welcome, Bill! Looking forward to seeing more of your photos. You obviously have the eye for dramatic composition — and hopefully a good raincoat!

Thanks, Michael. Love the dancing chorus line of clouds you captured in #245—and the whole stage set of actors in #246.
May 8, 2023 at 4:54 am #572475
Thanks Keelin. I suppose if on the moon our atmosphere would seem to boil.
May 11, 2023 at 10:52 am #572771
I love your Distant Moon, Keelin and the gentle dotted @247 too, Michael.
May 13, 2023 at 9:14 pm #572975
Keelin, your moon is terrific. Almost like cooking some moon soup.
Michael, looking like some cloud dancers in #245.
Hans, nothing wrong with fading out. Can’t stay forever.

Love the mystery in #248, Michael. It continues to subtly morph in my mind’s eye, capturing the spirit of clouds that never hold still for long. I remain in awe of your skill in handling the many values of grey in these B&W images.
May 21, 2023 at 4:36 am #573600
Thanks Keelin. My habit remains to go for the most depth of field as I can get. Lately tho,Im trying to just expose for the bright spot with focus there, click. So a lot of out of focus (mysterious) can come in handy. Some times it works some times you have to be in the right frame of mind to have fun with it.. Wild Shot btw.
