Michael LerchParticipantNice canopy shot Keelin! It feels very close.
Another ” marble” shot

Michael LerchParticipantrje..oops, a very recent photo op made me realize a correction is in order…the shot is of altocumulus floccus perlucidus..not stratiformis..They are in groups or patches but not to the extent stratiformis implies.
From a distance the cloudlets may appear small enough to indicate a cirrocumulus appellation. Yet when the same patch is near or overhead the cloudlets meet the altocumulus size parameter. Again, visually they are a lot of fun for me.

Michael LerchParticipantrje…the pictured above are altocumulus (medium height,6.5kft to 23k ft high) stratiformus ( cloudlets over a large area) perlucidus (space between cloudlets). They are one of my favorite to photograph because they can be both light and dark in the same shot( depending on light and shade) as well as giving a flowing texture. They easily can blend into a undulatus as well. When I see these coming I make sure I have my camera ready.

Michael LerchParticipantYes Hans, an early morning canopy of perlucidus with cumulus underneath created a good show! A lively apparition you have caught there!

Michael LerchParticipantGinny once used the word ” painterly” to describe some photos of clouds. Hans, that seems to apply.
a fractus storm..
