Hakan, I know I have commented on your beautiful photo very recently. I keep coming back to look at it time and time again simply to enjoy the wonderful and raptuous colurs and scenery you have so wonderfully captured. From time to time I change my screensaver image and your photo now enjoys that position – and that is against keen competition! The photos that get posted onto this website are truly great.
I hope your photo becomes the CAS’s Photo Of The Month! Here’s hoping just that! Thanks again.

Beautiful and restful – I love the way the gentle mists have been captured rising up from the water to compliment the graceful and serene clouds above. A sight to enjoy!
Thanks,Hakan.Laurence

Laurie Green says:
This is indeed a very rare sighting and you are privileged to witness such an occurence.
I regularly visit the APOD (Astronomy Picture Of the Day) NASA website and came across this quite recent detail about the Green Flsah phenomenon on its website:- http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap120623.html

Thanks Hakan for your response. To get this photo, I think knowledge met opportunity with a tiny bit of luck thrown in. And thanks Ian for the link. I am a little more educated today.

More from Les Cowley of Atmospheric Optics about the Green Flash on link below….

Håkan says:
It was mostly luck. I was looking at a very attractive sunset. It was absolutely clear near the horizon and the image of the sun became omega shaped when approaching the horizon, indicating inferior mirage. I realised there could be a green flash – and there was. It lasted 1-2 seconds and I got two pictures, the one on the web site and after that one fainter, which was more bluish green.
-
Sharon says:
I never heard of the rare green flash. Was it just luck that you captured it? Glad you did, however it happened. Always nice to learn something new.

bryan says:
NO WAY!!! AWESOME Hakan, AWESOME!!! I just finished reading a book by Carl Hiassen call “Flush” and he incorparated the “Rare Green Flash” into the book…..AWESOME!!!!
