  2. I love all clouds and the universe and this picture is the first of this type of cloud formation I have had the pleasure seeing….it looks like ocean waves in the sky and it is just very stunning.
    I had to let you know that this picture is amazing and wish I had a print of it to hang…. smiles
    thankyou for such a great site to see all the different types of clouds and the intense colors too…love them all

What looks to be a 'new mountain range' appears to actually be a layer of stratus that is exhibiting Holmboe instability. This is an instability related to Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, and it manifests as bumps in the clouds rather than clouds that curl over. This unique example was spotted by Peggy while out on Lake Superior, near Cornucopia, Wisconsin, US.
