I was about 3 miles west of where you took this shot on that day – by sunset there was an enormous wall of lenticularis layers reaching up to a very high altitude above the line of the hills, and stretching from somewher over Rossendale forest about 30 miles to the north down to a guessed 20 miles to the south.
Looking on time lapse satellite imagery the next day, you could see how from this front edge, the cloud layer (trailing eastwards from this front edge as the air lifted over the hills) stretched right across in a narrowing wedge which finally dissipated about the middle of the North Sea.
Serenity!
Laurence

Great cloud shot you have hear Anthony , and many thanks for you comment on my last photo !
Magnificent ,
Majestic sky – I love the light in the sky, so serene above the darkening landscape. And the lenticular turns of these clouds!
Stunning clouds, Anthony. Islands in the sky :)
