Nice picture of a “mackerel sky” of mid-level Alto-cumulus, a bit like chunks of pack-ice floating high above the earth in the blue sky. This formation could be the start of a further weather front yet to arrive, other times, it can mean fine weather. From Rebecca Hill
Amazing shot! A mackerel sky that has the appearance a bit like hailstones in the sky stretching off into the distance.

The photo editor’s description of your photo, “Altocumulus floccus” reminds me of what we I the UK refer to these clouds as follows:- “Mother Carey’s sheep coming home to rest and be sheltered from the forthcoming rain”.
Sun rays, sun beams, god rays – whatever one might call them! Wonderful shot, Jane. Most entrancing. It must have been quite something to witness this real time.
Thanks for this splendid vista!
