    Alfred Stieglitz

I would have read about Stieglitz in The Cloudspotter’s Guide, Gavin Pretor-Pinney, pp 86-87. But I had forgotten this when I was thinking about Cloudshapes. I think Stieglitz would indeed have been pleased with the Forum’s B&W threads.

I only just noticed my typo ‘Cloushapes’ for ‘Cloudshapes’, and in a heading too – it makes me sic (sic). You were all too polite to comment.

Keelin, no I do not plan, do not have the skills, to pursue. A one time moderator of the forum, Mike (the glider pilot), once commented that it was a joy to see the random walks of threads.

Lastly it is for me to thank you all for the enjoyment, and deeper reach into clouds, you give me.

My book (*) gives the record high temperature in Phoenix for June as 122F, average 102.3F. The next closest is Las Vegas at 116F, then several in Ca to my surprise. But Phoenix relative humidity is only 12 (so that is why you call it the desert I suppose).

Of 17 international cities listed only Delhi, India at 102F hits the ton.

    * Weather, from the Weather Guide Calender, 2007

P.S. Perhaps humans can adapt – as the UK falls towards 70F did I feel a slight shiver?

What ho, Roger. Got ’em, second time. Large head at the top, or his front left paw is almost another. And at one glance the whole seemed to become a lion’s head. Not sure of your tag ‘The God Dog’ though.

Uh, oh. My reply vanished. One more tiime

Fair enough, George. But maybe the clue is in the NGS tag – mesocyclone (q.v.)

    Personalisation

All the global players are at it, wanting to know about you. I wonder if the BBC are joining the bandwagon with their heavy and continuous advertising exhorting you to become a Weather Watcher…

Strewth. And in the UK we are melting as it pushes towards 90F. LHR hottest since 1976. Mostly clear blue.

    Love your flat top.

Well, thank you both for that – I never thought it might have a name. Fascinating.

Again, reminds me of one of my favourite songs – The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies.

A similar picture appeared in The Times (UK) 30MAY2017. But clouds seem to be collateral.

Graham, I recently lost a reply – CAS said it can happen when the system suspects spam (in my case just a few links but no text). They gave it the green light and it re-appeared.

    A rig’t ‘o.’o’, Gra’am.

Thank you, Laura – a right blue you have there, not a shade you might easily find in clouds, perhaps. Though the Forum did succeed in finding green, mostly around storms, perhaps.

Come to think of it I did sit out a tornado beside the pond in Hillier Gardens a few years ago as a few trees were toppled. Two weeks ago, being older and wiser, I did not go to the Garden when the forecaster called out the possibility of falling trees..

Hi Laura. Not living in hurricane country (Hampshire UK) I was not aware of such symbols so must check them out one day. But certainly an intriguing cloud with that bright centre… Thanks.
