ParticipantKeelin posted reply number 102 for Wave Clouds holding her breath. I hope you already breathed in before the new Volume was started Keelin! I must suppose so, but your last one was indeed breathtaking (any one can check).
Before the post by Keelin George posted some so called KH wannabies on the former Wave Clouds thread. Well, for me the last two are really KH George. I happened to have the opportunity recently to see a lot of nice weather cumuli passing by and a lot of them showed what you would name KH wannabies. From begin to end I watched them develop and disappear in cloudy chaos, one more characteristic then the other, but nevertheless KH instability on cumuli. For me their features are too specific – with this characteristic crescent – to describe them as KH Wannabies. Of course you may disagree, but for a start of this volume here is another one of the same kind with even some color.
May a tsunami of waves follow on this thread.

ParticipantVery nice Sea of Unknowing Keelin. Where do you find these words? Love it. Enchanting and mystical for sure. To answer your question: probably they won’t get there, but….
We’re all in the same boat ready to float off the edge of the world
The flat old world.Yes again a quotation from the Band, from Life is a Carnival.
Look! The boat is approaching the Edge-Of-The-World.

ParticipantThank you for kind words, Hans. I love the way contemplating clouds inspires unusual thinking, mental meanderings outside-the-box ~~ because there is no box!
Wonder-filled image of the boat approaching the Edge-Of-The-World! But what if there are steps leading to another level? What might we find there?

ParticipantTwo posts above, Hans, your serene blue clouds appear to have traveled that quiet road. The pattern they form also reminds me of a page of prose I would like to read. What story would it tell, I wonder? And Putting the Waves back in motion is just what we need after a quiet rest. Love the cresting highlights!
Below, the shredded edges of cloud appear as light reflections from a topping of heady seafoam.

ParticipantRippled Foam is just as tasty, Hans!
I found the somewhat foamy image below tucked away in archives today. As I recall, it was the lennies in the far distance that caught my eye. It had been ages since I’d seen any lenticularis, and spotting just a couple brought a big grin. The layering of clouds in the foreground reminds me of coastal fog, which also makes me smile — especially since I don’t live nearly near enough to the sea.

ParticipantGeorge, to me it certainly was fluctus but now seems to be already over the top (so to say). I am also not certain whether one can call it fluctus in this phase of the flow. In fact fluctus is caused by an instability and at a certain point of the process it shows the typical crests of a Kelvin- Helmholtz formation now classified as fluctus. I suppose it is at that point it is classified as fluctus. Your picture just shows something of it before it all dissipates in cloudy chaos (quote from the Cloud a Day service).

ParticipantWhatever the proper classification may be, George, there’s something fun in the form taken by the clouds you’ve captured there.
And Hans, Long After The Sea Stayed Restless would be the perfect title for a mystery novel with that image on the cover. Did something (or someone!) go overboard? Perhaps only those with a bird’s eye view could say.

ParticipantThere is great beauty in the calmness you’ve captured in your image, Hans. It’s almost as if undulatus is being reflected in nearly still water that ripples gently in the opposite direction. And yet, we know it all took place in the sky above.
Quite a contrast to what the image below suggests. Another plunge into the deep by who, what, when, where?

ParticipantIt doesn’t take much imagination while viewing your Waterfall, Hans, to hear the rush of river flow. The image nearly animates as well.
And here is a question: If a wave crashes on the shore and no one is there, does it make a sound? I stood beneath this wave of cloud and heard nothing, but witnessed resounding beauty.

ParticipantKeelin, your View From The Crow’s Nest reminds me of that strange bird that left the forum just a year ago. Recently I noticed his contributions on the website The halo Vault. Optical pheneomena clearly have his specific interest (and I also like to keep up with the strange pheneomena that are shared on that site!). Like a true Crow he seemingly appreciates the glittering of halos.

ParticipantThat is quite a formidable image, Hans. I very much like its dynamic composition. It also serves as a reminder that I’ve been wanting to acknowledge your inclusion in the CAS 2019 Calendar ~~ Congratulations! Prost!
As for our crow friend, perhaps we will see him alight again on our Optical Phenomena topic. Meanwhile, I suppose we can offer a big wave and wish him favorable winds.

ParticipantI am not a frequent visitor here so it’s nice to be treated to some very nice pictures, Keelin and Hans!
Incidentally, Sunday’s Cloud (if you are getting those mails) is one of Hans’s shots. When I opened the mail, even before seeing the whole picture, I knew it was one by Hans, probably with his 400mm telephoto. Hans, you have developed a very personal style, which I think people can recognize just like one would recognize a known painter. Would you post the Sunday cloud picture here for people to enjoy and see what I mean?

ParticipantThank you George for your kind words. It may be funny that I am not aware of a certain style myself but it is really nice when you recognize something the like. It might be easier to recognize it for someone else? I suppose you also will recognize pictures by Michael or Keelin? I do and I mentioned their recognizable signature before in several threads.
The Sunday cloud picture is already on the gallery (June 4, 2019) but maybe next one is also interesting. A wider shot of the cloud formation in b&w that I posted in the Black & White Thread XIII:
