The moon never fails. This picture also appeared on the front page of The Times, UK, 7OCT2017.

ItĀ happens to beĀ local to me i.e. Hampshire, (UK) (unless you are an IoW separatist). How about your Harvest Moon picture, local or otherwise?

To me it looks a bit like Photoshop comparing a) the size of the moon and the buildings at the horizon and b) the different pixel size of the moon and the horizon line. Even with my 400 mm lens I never got a moon like that. But may be I am too sceptic?

When the Moon is very close to the horizon it always looks a great deal bigger.Ā  It is an optical illusion.Ā  As the Moon rises into the night sky it gets appreciably smaller.

Tip and suggestion:- try viewing the Moon when “standing” upside down – that is, head down and feet up in the air.Ā  The Moon looks even bigger!
