“Villanelle of the Clouds” by Paul Reddick

Paul Reddick, member 52,023, sent this lyric that he wrote for a friend who composes for, and runs an amateur women’s choir in Toronto.

Villanelle of the Clouds

Raise your eyes up high toward the sky
Well beyond the bustle far below
The mystery of the motion, rolling, rolling by

Far flung or distant or closer as they fly
Messengers of water, wind and flow
Raise your eyes up high toward the sky

Altitudes of beauty forever stratify
Atmospheres of breezes, the oceans that they row
The mysteries of the motions, rolling, rolling by

Lay down lay down and hear the lullaby
Love’s vaporous verses will set you aglow
Raise your eyes up high toward the sky

Alto strato nimbo climbing high
It doesn’t ever matter where you go
The mystery of the motion, rolling rolling by

Clouds oh clouds oh clouds I cry
Rain and snow and wind and blow
Raise your eyes up high toward the sky
The mystery of the motion, rolling rolling by
