A Cloudy Day of Art

Kathleen Janick, member 49,856, sent us this tongue-in-cheek expression of her experience in the CAS cloud watercolor workshops hosted by Donna Levinstone and Gavin Pretor-Pinney. She told us “despite my artistic frustrations, I highly enjoyed and do recommend the workshops, which are educational, fun, relaxing, encouraging and no pressure”. The painting here is one she made during the workshop.

A Cloudy Day of Art

I tried my hand at painting clouds
White-blue-gray drips on paper
Running together, blurring outlines
It’s tough to show water vapor.

Blotches and smudges and puddles
Rorschach patterns for kids
Shapes that look nothing like clouds
Some that look just like squids.

I used my best brushstrokes
To make artwork of the skies
But now I see, I must admit,
It’s time to plagiarize.
