January 23, 2016 at 11:32 pm #87303Howard Brown Participant1) David Bowie
CAS used this picture from the CAS Gallery and captioned it ‘Ziggy says farewell…’ (or similar): https://cloudappreciationsociety.org/?s=ziggy&g=12) Glenn Frey/The Eagles (there is a wide selection in the CAS Gallery):
 https://cloudappreciationsociety.org/gallery/photo-04165/3) Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister/Motorhead
The pictures from Mike’s post on the CAS Old Forum no longer work. They included cumulus like dry ice from another group Lordi.
http://www.network54.com/Forum/385606/thread/1234685717If you can post alternative cloud pictures related to the above or other lives, I would be curious.

January 25, 2016 at 7:44 am #87332Andrew Pothecary ModeratorWell, my love of Bowie and of clouds didn’t really intersect. But I thought this cover featured clouds, so a quick Google search (it’s one of the albums I don’t have!) brought up this selection. I thought it looked good repeated in Google:

March 10, 2016 at 12:18 am #88440Howard Brown ParticipantGeorge Martin Lucy in the sky with… https://cloudappreciationsociety.org/gallery/photo-02209/ Not sure why you get the gallery picture not the link, and on testing, the mouse pointer on the picture does not go to the CAS Gallery where I searched ‘Lucy’. -
March 13, 2016 at 12:28 am #88501Howard Brown ParticipantRE: George Martin N.B. I think we may have a bug in the system since the link back to the CAS Gallery does not seem to work – it would have shown that Lucy does work in the sky. The full text follows (I inserted [Mills]): ‘This rare capture of a Vortex was taken at 16,000 feet above Wellington, New Zealand, from the cockpit of the Auckland Life Flight Air Ambulance, where Lucy [Mills] works as a Flight Nurse. In very unstable air, these vortices can be drawn up by a Cumulonimbus updraft and produce tornadoes.’

April 23, 2016 at 10:51 pm #136096Howard Brown ParticipantPrince I am sure there are purples in the CAS Gallery (there are purples in a current slider picture) but I see no search function. So I offer this from NME (there are more if you google ‘purple’): http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/in-minnesota-its-raining-purple -

If you then click on the picture (04914) in the top left line per usual you only get this link (to the Gallery currently starting with the Supermoon over Neath, S. Wales)

December 12, 2016 at 9:25 am #187399 Hans StockerParticipant Hans StockerParticipantThe blues are looking me into the eyes through the eyes of Jan Fabre, Hygge. Did you use this link by mistake or on purpose? In either way very funny. -
December 12, 2016 at 11:07 pm #187529Howard Brown ParticipantI remembered it, Hans, and since it came (via you) from an earlier thread about blue, it struck me as relevant. I usually use this thread as an excuse to post random pictures from the gallery.

December 13, 2016 at 11:18 am #187623 Hans StockerParticipant Hans StockerParticipantThanks, I like that Hygge. It makes me feel free to use this thread as an excuse to add this link: Eric Verlinden’s new therory of gravity In some way also a tribute, although still living. -
December 14, 2016 at 11:59 pm #187939Howard Brown ParticipantI’m afraid Verlinden is as clear as mud to me, but I enjoyed wallowing in it as a Hampshire Hog might. Gavin’s explanation, albeit a different gravity perhaps, I could follow:

September 14, 2017 at 11:44 pm #230551Howard Brown ParticipantBarry White He turned up on my local radio recently as I think he may for ever. September 16, 2017 at 11:20 pm #230832Howard Brown ParticipantCassini OCT 1997 – SEP 2017 Pioneering Saturn probe. OK. A lovely picture of Saturn. But this thread is a random way of showing earthly clouds, so since this came from Laurie I offer a White Sands, NM, photo from Laurence’s link
-
September 17, 2017 at 12:47 am #230840Laurie Floyd ParticipantOk, got it now. I did see that photo in that TWAN collection and all of those were very beautiful. And that was a lightening storm there on Saturn, but I digress, not earthly, ok.

September 23, 2017 at 11:33 pm #232076Howard Brown ParticipantBobbie Gentry (a stage name) Ode to Billie Joe (q.v.) was on BBC Four two days back. Gentry chose to vanish from the music scene some four decades ago, but here are some ‘Mississippi clouds’ (google it and you get many interesting clouds from other areas too). EDIT: Well, in fact you only get the interesting clouds…

November 3, 2017 at 11:04 pm #238781Howard Brown ParticipantFats Domino Well, I searched ‘blueberry’ after his famous ‘Blueberry Hill’. It gave me J Claveau in Art, I know not why; being in Art I noticed this latest one which happened to be within my stamping ground, so… At least it’s fairly blue, though not hilly.

February 24, 2018 at 11:17 pm #260454Howard Brown ParticipantBilly Graham retired to North Carolina, I think. The following on this CAS Forum suggests he made a good choice: Lorraine Lordi
ParticipantI am very happy to have this new forum. I look forward to taking more pictures and talking with others across the world. Thank you. Lorraine in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. North Carolina’s nickname is “Land of the Sky” because in these mountains, we can see the sky change moment to moment. And we always have clouds!

Alec Jones contributed to the CAS link – twice a frequent contributor to the Forum, twice lost.
