Michael LerchParticipantUpon reaching 100 posts in the 5th volume of Color Cloud shots, Thanks Hans!, allow me to go forward with the 6th volume . Taking shots at the extremes of the day gives color magic, sometimes.

Patricia L KeelinParticipantWhat a lovely launch, Michael. As usual, you’ve caught the light just right! I’ve also been meaning to say kudos on your cascade of Cirrus featured on the Gallery on December 28! I love the underwater feel you captured so well in that image.
Volume V featured all manner of colorful clouds on display, a bit of poetry, and even some musical and mathematical references. Who could have predicted that? And who knows where our sharing of clouds and commentary will lead next? Perhaps the answer is blowing in the wind.

-
January 9, 2019 at 11:57 pm #324647
Michael LerchParticipantThanks Keelin! That Cirrus event was impressive, not quite like anything I’ve seen. You are right, you just never know what you’ll find when you look up.

Hans StockerParticipantAlready Volume VI…. Ah, such a fine start by Michael and then the virga Blowing In The Wind by Keelin (together with some answers?).
Trying to stay close to the wonderful tender structure of Arizona Color #602….

Hans StockerParticipantYour last two color pics are both very remarkable each in their own way Michael. I love the fairy and snowy look of #606, while #607 has this fine structure almost without color. Fantastic!

Contrasting Structures
-
January 24, 2019 at 2:46 am #326961
Patricia L KeelinParticipantFabulous images, Michael and Hans! Catching up just now with this color topic is a feast for the eyes. Arizona Color #606 is mesmerizing, Michael. And Contrasting Structures is like a moment of surprise not to be missed, Hans.
The image below was taken on a very stormy day. I could barely detect what I thought might be interesting swirls in the clouds. In order to see what was really happening up there, I gave the image strong contrast, which delivers the impression of a rough textured watercolor. Rough weather, water, color… somehow, for me, the resulting image captures the dark moodiness of the sky that afternoon.
Moody Blues -
January 24, 2019 at 12:54 pm #327021
Hans StockerParticipantKeelin, I agree you captured the atmosphere with these whirling clouds perfectly. Love it!
And when Moody Blues appear next one must follow.

Patricia L KeelinParticipantSplendid shadow play in AZ #608, Michael.
And Hans, that is some delicious looking broccoli you’ve served up. Fit for a king and his loyal knights. Those song lyrics have a way of lingering. Today, I looked up to find, torn and tossed to the winds…

Hans StockerParticipantA canopy, yes it might be a canopy Michael that Keelin posted as “Letters I´ve Written …….”. I can hear the melody of it in the picture Keelin.
And then another marble shot by Michael followed by this grid of altocumulus in #610 (yes, alto?) giving this feel of coming spring.

Playful Patterns
-
February 8, 2019 at 2:13 am #329210
Patricia L KeelinParticipantWonderful variety of patterns in the images above, you two. I imagine each arrangement could make for a fun game of hide-and-seek for our avian friends.

Michael LerchParticipantArizona Color# 611

-
February 17, 2019 at 2:33 am #330612
Patricia L KeelinParticipantHans, your Shadowing image has all the elements of an intriguing dream. I keep falling into the space in between the soft-edged iridescence and the crisp, silver-lined cloud with its deep dark shadow, where something(?!) will soon unfold.
And Michael, Arizona Color #611 is one I want to dive right into. I would hold my breath in anticipation, but why? It’s (mostly) all air up there, n’est-ce pas?
Lots of rain here lately, and a bit of hail too. But the sky captured below promised something else.
A Soft Rain’s A-Gonna Fall -
February 19, 2019 at 2:13 am #330883
Michael LerchParticipantYes Keelin its been a parade of clouds for almost a week here in the desert. The weather folks referred to the phenomena as a ” river” extending way out into the Pacific. It rained again here last night. Unusual!

February 21, 2019 at 4:48 pm #331265
Hans StockerParticipantA Soft Rain’s A-Gonna Fall in California and the desert is in the mist. It feels all so Dutch and familiar now sitting inside with this grey nimbostratus and the accompanying drizzle outside. In between mister Kelvin and mister Helmholtz are showing what the instability with their names can produce in the air when the weather is fine.

It Can Be Anywhere

Michael LerchParticipantArizona Color#614

-
March 1, 2019 at 3:51 pm #332360
Patricia L KeelinParticipantIndeed, Hans, It Could Be Anywhere, but it was there — and you captured it! At least for the moment. And then who knows what may have become of those lovely cloud wisps? Perhaps some found their way across the pond and became part of Michael’s Arizona Color #614? Maybe they were even part of #613, which hold a definite mystery about it.
Michael, #613 is one of my favorites! It could well be the opening scene of a movie that would definitely be going somewhere anxiety-producing. The subtly discernible cactus in the foreground is a perfect touch (no pun intended). The feeling it evokes reminds me again of Todd Hido’s photographic encounters with foggy environments.
Hold it Right There -
March 4, 2019 at 6:07 pm #332791
Hans StockerParticipantI agree with the Todd Hido analogy in the misty picture by Michael, Keelin. Great picture Michael.
And then I see this smiling face of the one who Holds It Right There. Lots of energy in the sky and great picture. A close up showed ..

Here some fish bone like lines.

-
March 8, 2019 at 10:12 pm #333431
Patricia L KeelinParticipantLove that subtle wrinkle in your fluffy blanket of Cirrocumulus, Michael. And those are some very fine fish bones, Hans. They must have traveled a long way from the sea, come to think of it. Below, it looks like an explorer dove in to investigate the original source.

This is my first glimpse at the forums since arriving here over a week ago, and the beautiful images posted to the topics are definitely spirit-restoring. April 1, 2019 at 2:58 am #337538
Michael LerchParticipantThank you Hans. I had to be patient for that shot and a few others of that event. I saw its potential from a distance and had to wait for it. I was pleased to see it hold together just long enough for me to get a few pics of it. Like your lacunosus above the clouds can take their time and let us get shots of them, and sometimes the event is over by the time the camera is just being turned on…oh well.

Howard Brown
ParticipantKeelin, I particularly like Towards Twilight. In fact I wonder if you kept shooting because I have concluded of late that I really enjoy Post Twilight – the sky still has light but the clouds are now dark. Recently a waxing sliver of setting moon in the North West added its charm to the vista.
-
August 5, 2019 at 10:08 pm #360524
Patricia L KeelinParticipantThanks, Hygee! Twilight and post-Twi have a calmness about them I enjoy too. A sliver of moon always tends to catch my eye as it brings to mind a sweet little girl named Ayça whom I met decades ago on a tiny beach in Turkey. She made a enduring memory for me explaining that she was named for the crescent moon.
