The dramatic lighting sets the photo off nicely, especially the clouds. Good shot, Kristof.

A dynamic view of Mt. Fuji, an active volcano with vents from which one created this volcanic vortex ring. It consists of a mix of volcanic ash and cloud, and it results from the volcano’s hot gasses taking on a particular kind of spin. Low pressure within this ring-shaped vortex can cool the gases enough for the water vapour within to condense, often onto any particles of volcanic ash, and appear as a cloud ring. This is a rare phenomenon that causes the formation of visible toroidal clouds. This classic example was captured by Akira Ebisawa, taken from the lake shore of Lake Yamanaka, Japan.
