Hey John, Nice Pic, from a freindly Cloud spotter in Harlow
That’s definitely real. The fallstreak consists of falling ice crystals and they create the optical effect (halo) called Circumzenithal Arc (look at the categories). Because the ice crystals are like glass prisms, they reflect and refract the light more effectively than waterdrops (rain), which makes the colours more intense than a rainbow can possibly be.

Wow! Is that CZA real, or a photoshop effect? I’m just a bit confused by the intensity of the colours in places, especially the blues.
