It looks like a layer sitting right in that transition zone from supercooled droplets to ice crystals, i.e. higher end of altostratus to lower end of cirrus which would also explain the cavum (or cava, to be exact).

That’s definitely a CB as they’re known in the aviation world; not a massive monster but something I would advise student pilots to avoid with a good margin in light aircraft.
