How about this one, Clover? No clouds, I’m afraid, but pretty enough in its own way. I’ve got another beauty which I will post in the B&W section.

When shall we three meet again?

In thunder, lightning or in rain?

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searching in the sun for another overload

I hear you singing in the wires
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

Hans, at which ski resort was this taken and did he take any more images?

Mike, that’s a really helpful explanation, thank you. I am fairly positive that I have seen this effect on several occasions and my gut feeling is that Holmboe in my experience is possibly a slightly more frequent visitor than K-H. Nothing scientific mind you, just a feeling. Now that  have had them pointed out to me I’ll certainly be on the lookout for more.

#41 is a beauty. Magma bubbling and roiling beneath the surface. I think it would make a great ceramic/pottery glaze.

The contrail game is going well and we will soon be in double figures. It can be tricky; at first you think you have a perfect “eight” then you look more closely and you notice two or three much fainter trails lurking in the background! Would anyone like to make a prediction of what the final tally is likely to be?

Mike, I don’t think I’ve come across Holmboe Instability waves before. Thanks for that, I’ll look into it. I’ve certainly learned something interesting today.

Mike, that’s masterful, another image that would look good blown up to several feet and gracing the walls of an art gallery.

Does anyone else get annoyed with “experts” dictating what is right in any given situation? Whilst asperitas may be grammatically correct Latin, I much prefer the original ‘incorrect’ asperatus. Who in the world besides ourselves ever discusses asperatus/asperitas? Regardless of “official” naming conventions, the decision should be ours and ours alone  The little people of the world should rise up and demand that their voices, opinions and preferences be heard. Asperitas? Blech…
