ParticipantHi Hans, I really like your Undulations at Sunset! This is the first time I’m replying/posting on a forum, I see there are no like buttons etc, so do we just enter our comments or posts as a reply (as I am doing here)? Don’t know how this vertical pano will work!

ParticipantSuch beautiful images closed Volume V, I can’t wait to see what this next batch brings. And thank you, Hans, for launching us with those soft, beckoning undulations.
A warm welcome to the forum, Meryl! Your pano works perfectly. As I scroll to see where it lands, I have the feeling of floating down like a wisp of cotton candy on a summer breeze. Delightful!
And Ruth, may I offer a a fluffy comforter to go with your lovely Sherbet Booties?

ParticipantHans, Ruth, Meryl & Keelin— so many colors! Blues and purples, golds and oranges, reds and grays and browns and stirred up together– a veritable sky rainbow!
And welcome Meryl, to the forum- so glad you’ve joined in the fun :-)
Hans– thanks for kicking off the next volume as well.
I’m afraid I’ve been a bit preoccupied with kids at home, though I did manage to get out last night and was treated to a treasure-house of sunset deliciousness!

ParticipantWhat a great variety of sunsets from everywhere. Welcome in this thread Meryl. Your vertical pano works more than well. Love it. Booties, a Fluffy comforter, a Flambe to enjoy all ending in a well tuned quartet of very different looking sunsets. Are they all taken in one evening Daniel? That must have been a great ending of the day.

ParticipantHey Meryl— thanks— actually on the ground down in the Willamette Valley, Oregon— just a big zoom lens going deep into the horizon, gives the illusion of being in the clouds, which I love :-)
And yep, Hans— all the same evening– put on quite a show for me over an hour and a half or so.

ParticipantHello everyone!
Today I have some pretty wonderful photos to share with you. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, and so I thought I might as well come back with some pretty incredible stuff to show you all! These two were taken of the same sunset about 20 minutes apart. The second of the two is one of my favorite sunset pictures ever because of its deep red color in a nice little ribbon-like shape.
Enjoy! Hope you all are doing well!

ParticipantMy favorite cloud varies from time to time : sometimes lenticular, sometimes cirrocumulus undulatus, sometimes a pileus on a cumulus. Right now, it’s optical phenomena.
Thank you to Ruth and Hans for reminding me that sunset rays are ever and always fascinating.
Looking through some very old – 1999 – (have I been a cloudspotter that long?) film-based photos of mine, I stumbeled upon this one.

And great shadows on your spotting from the former millennium Don :) The date can’t be an issue when it is such a great light show. Timeless in my opinion.

And you captured a great shadow Ruth. Sorry to be a bit nerdy about it but that’s different from – and even the opposite of – a ray. But very nice anyway.

August 11, 2020 at 6:52 pm #443452

ParticipantHans, not nerdy at all. I so appreciate any critique of my pictures. I don’t often know what I am seeing, but know what I like in taking a shot. Sometimes I just feel it in my gut when I have captured a nice worth while photo.
Blues At Sunset, those clouds just look happy to end a good day. Greys and yellows together work nicely.

ParticipantA nice sunset in the Pacific NorthWest. Last night, a cloud formed over this mountain. I am not an expert but I believe it may be a Lenticularis cloud. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Sorry about the plane that was in the way
I hope you like it :)
Can you guess which mountain this is?
-
November 11, 2020 at 9:50 am #452096
Hans Stocker
ParticipantYou spotted a marvelous cap cloud Donatella. Love it, coloring in the sunset. Moist stable air is forced upward to pass the mountain, condenses while cooling when it gets higher and evaporates when the air descends on the other side of the mountain. This way the cap cloud reveals the flow of he air around the mountain. It is the same way pileus develops but that has to be on top of a (cumulus) cloud.

So many truly stunning images from everyone, and some I can’t help returning to see again and again (especially Michael’s #605, Hans’s Breakthrough, Ruth’s Getting Ready To Dance… and the river of mirrored clouds in Gregory’s Light Fog…) for the feelings of rapture they never fail to deliver.
The closest I’ve come to the twilight zone (well, at least in reference to clouds) is this photo below with just a hint of evening’s entrance from a couple of weeks ago. Wish I could have lingered longer to see it take on more classic colorations.
