      2E49286C-3451-401E-AAD8-7AFC8C9E68F61E95AE2C-3DD3-470E-95A0-4195DF073686655B59A9-E995-407D-A363-7D7AA8D2B5F6Spotted some interesting clouds in my garden today. Very windy outside. I think they are Stratocumulus? However some had a very smooth appearance which looked different than usual and there was also a very dark cloud in the middle!

      Hello Marie.  My name is Mike . I live in Phoenix Az. We have a monsoon season  from July to September and I’ve seen examples of what you have captured. I think wind is the key element. Winds pushing around sluggish cumulus creates a lot of eddies and whirlpools where clouds in transition take place. Below are two pictures of the same general direction maybe 15 minutes apart. Stratus  manifests itself around  convectus and nimbus cumulus. When I see that I fear for some heavy rain before its over. So I think you caught some humidty getting condescended out of the atmosphere on its way to be a whole  sheet of stratus…or fail in trying. The winds may have proved to be too much.
