ParticipantKeelin..Thanks but that pic was taken in 2017..same lens as I use today but different camera body. Same condition exist as i type , just add a bolt of lightning every 30 seconds. Monsoon came back after a 3 week vacation. The thunder is approaching the constant level..a constant rumble…I was watching it a little while ago. Quite a show…anyway…quite the mood there!

ParticipantKeelin, I love your possi-billyg (or Portrait In Progress). To me it is certi-billyg. Great find! And thanks about the cloud of the month. I am pleasantly surprised about it, also in a second way, for I did not sent it in myself. It is a spotting from the Cloudspotter app taken with the phone. Shortly Gavin started to post the pictures of the day on the gallery (and this one was ‘just” candidate picture of the day). Nice to do so I think. Anyway I like the explanation accompanying the picture. There are always new things to learn about clouds.
Arizona Color #701 is a monumental cauliflower of a cloud Michael. Overwhelming details.
Indeed quite the mood on your last two posts Keelin and Michael. They make a perfect pair.

ParticipantKeelin ..I’ve seen a few of the lightning strikes stories in the news and on the internutz which seem part of the slow summer news cycles ,,but thats enough to make me realize one drop of rain is telling me its time to go,,and who wants to get the camera wet? I’ve noticed lightning seems to follow the rain. Perhaps the wet acts like an conduit or easy path of least resistance for the lightning to get around. In any case Soft clouds or Sharp, one drop of rain is all it takes for me to be inside.

ParticipantA dramatic scene you’ve captured there, Hongmeiyuan! It looks as if your feet at the time may have been right up there with those splendid clouds. A warm welcome to the forum and hope to see more images from you in days to come.
Below, the sky had a rather dusty look that day, but I don’t suppose we should call these “Linticularis”.

ParticipantIt appeared this cloud would sail quietly by, yet it dropped anchor in my noggin and whispered a haiku that has me still wondering…
is open-hearted
a half-empty or half-full
possibility? It also brings lyrics by Leonard Cohen to mind…
One by one, the guests arrive
The guests are coming through
The open-hearted many
The broken-hearted fewI love the way some clouds won’t leave us alone.

ParticipantRoma…the clouds appear low enough to be stratocumulus. They are under a blanket of altostratus , yes? They may even be a stratus rising up and thus being torn apart by the heat that is pushing them up as in the 2nd shot? The linear nature suggests an influence , maybe even a man made influence. Intriguing shots!

ParticipantI can see why that cloud caught your eye, Roma. You made the most impressive photo of it with that perspective.
And beautiful drama captured in #713, Michael. Exquisite lighting. Wow!
And thank you, Hans, for kind comments further up. Cloudplay is inspiring! The wind certainly knows how to do it.

ParticipantMichael, your #715 is like a dream shimmering into place. Love the soft focused moment you’ve captured there. And your latest (#716) keeps pulling me back for a closer look with those bits of sharply focused blue. Can’t say I’ve ever seen anything quite like this one!
And Hans, knowing how quickly a horseshoe vortex can disappear, you were again in just the might place at just the right time, doing just the right thing! How lucky can you get?

ParticipantThanks Keelin! Talkin about short lived clouds 715 a lacunosus event didn’t last as long as some Horseshoe Vortex last. They transitioned into a roiling storm churned mess soon after the pic was taken. Morning lighting created 716 if I recall correctly. And yes, to be a bird riding the currents reading the clouds all day.HAA!

ParticipantI agree with Keelin that #715 is dreamlike Michael. It is indeed always surprising how quick cloud formations can change dramatically within minutes. So it must be good timing to capture the hat of napoleon in #717. Love that one for its composition and (seemingly) simpleness.
Free Ride is inspiring Keelin for thoughts like Michael expresses so well.

ParticipantWonders upon wonders, you two. And where you both saw Nap’s hat, I see a small fleet of graceful stingrays. Then two images down, a dark watery world in which they might glide. Lovely!
Below, an image that was terribly blurry in its original state, but I liked the feel of too much to toss. A splash of “noise” seemed to crisp it up and gives it a kind of painted-on-rough-canvas look which, in this case, saves it?

ParticipantLove your oddities at high altitude in #718 Michael.
And the painted-on-rough-canvas-look more than saves your picture Keelin. It fits perfectly with the capture and also with the composition.

ParticipantDiscussing the caprice of wind and weather is nice Keelin en here we see them in color by you and Michael. Michael your last two posts have something in common: composition and colors. Your #722 strikes me in particular for its composition.
Trying to continue the softness here is the shape into which my spooky creature partially morphed being a close up on a later moment.

ParticipantYour #724 is a dynamic display, Michael. I can feel the energy of it! And the colors (especially that subtle grayish turquoise in the lower center) and composition of #725 makes it a favorite.
And Hans, there is a wonderful sense of dimension in Queing. That deep dark teal keeps me lingering contentedly, floating peacefully.
In contrast, the image below reminds me of the tossing and turning of a less than tranquil slumber.

ParticipantYes I have the same association with my untitled one Keelin. Love your virtual lake. For me it is an intriguing trompe l’oeil by nature.
Arizona Color #728 by Michael is impressive with this massive band of cloud separating the colors.
And then the cirrus filled sky by Gregory. Very nice.

Gregory, your Cirrus intortus gives me shivers of delight. And Michael, your #728 is simply stunning and lovely layered #733 is a favorite. As is your Play Of The Winds, Hans.
Caught this tiny glimpse of moon in its slow passage through late afternoon Cirrus. Of course, it was actually the drifting Cirrus that rendered the illusion.

ParticipantCrescendo welcomed, Hans! Who could resist that beautiful build up of clouds? And Micheal’s #738 provides a lovely transition to calm restored.
Seems like everywhere I look these days, there’s a little reminder of how the sky holds me sway. I think I hear Kate and Anna McGarrigle singing…

ParticipantOh, but the beauty of it, Hans! Love your Wind And Rain And Shine’s full spectrum of dark to light with just a hint of color. I would still dip my toes in the sea there just to have the added sensation turn it into a memory-making liminal moment. Even though they would surly be curly with the cold.

ParticipantLove the champagne celebratory feel of #739, Michael, while the composition and subtle colors of #740 continue to tease my sense of pareidolia. Some dreamlike creature keeps trying to emerge. I quite like the mystery of it.
And the boldness of those Large Cloudy Brush Strokes is inspiring, Hans. I feel as if I can almost hear them.
Below, the mood is more on the quiet side I think.

Look closely, and you’ll find a fingernail of moon in this one…
