ParticipantThe Crossroad with which Lisa ended the former Volume couldn’t lead elsewhere than to Volume XVII of our beloved Black and White Thread. Ruth and Lisa joined the B&W addicts and I love your posts. There is one post by Keelin in the former Volume that has to be checked before diving into this Volume: Mood / Doom. This duo-picture shows fine lines in the sky that fit perfectly with the fine lines of the tree. Great contrast. Love it.

ParticipantA warm welcome to you, Ying! That is a remarkable scene you’re captured. I can’t imagine that ominous cloud be any closer to the ground. Did you manage to stay dry?
And a warm welcome back to you, Gregory! So nice to have you posting here again and to the other topics as well. Grey Swirls is a lovely reintroduction to your photographic eye.
Nice minimalist approach in your #701, Michael. In a funny way, it reminds me California Cuisine. Love the cloud cube in #702 and the whole structure of that image. It is a favorite.

ParticipantWhat does a minimalist approach say about Californian Cuisine Keelin? Is there any horseshoe on the menu?
The menu in this thread is Burgundian and even fed by new members Ying and the returned Gregory. Let the Final Flinging not be the final and continue.
Glimpse
-
November 24, 2020 at 6:02 pm #454298

ParticipantHans, your Glimpse is deliciously mysterious. Although I’ve not seen horseshoe on a California menu, I wouldn’t be surprised to find a single green bean plated at some overly fancy restaurants. And yes, let us continue with this feast of B&W images. I doubt we shall ever be sated. Here’s a dash of this and a pinch of that to toss in.

Michael you succeeded to amaze me once more with your last three. Don’t know which one of them amazes me more. Maybe it is #705, for it seems to be painted with firm brushstrokes. Great art! Love it.

ParticipantThanks, Michael, for your compliment on the Bundle further above. Your #709 reminds me of the dramatic skies of Colorado. Powerful palettes with all shades ‘tween black and white. You capture them so well.
Ruth, your Cow Fog photo is hilarious. LOVE IT! We have that kind of “oreo” cow here in Napa also, but usually sans fog. The mistiness seems to suit it well.
And Gregory, I like the white bird contour in your Sunlit Cloudscapes.

And wow, Hans, what a photo! Rippledness is extraordinary. Do I hear a rush of water melodiously burbling its way down those furrowed steps?
Below, a rather large sheep laid down on the roof. At least, I think it was a sheep…

ParticipantNice floating feeling in #717, Michael. And as usual, your fine touch with the grey scales is evident.
Ruth, I’m amazed at the shapes of bright cloud above and water below being such a near match in It’s The Water—a lovely scene there.
Hans, where did you go to take that shot of the moon?! Amazing!
And back to ‘scales’ with Ruth’s most recent photo…

ParticipantMichael, heading into the mouth of Puff or gazing into a crystal ball, #718 is an intriguing swirl of wonder.

ParticipantThank you for kind comments, Ruth and Hans. Ruth, your Moon Pastry puts my head on a tilt and a smile on my face. What an odd and amusing image! And Hans, Undulations, with the contrast of smaller clouds at the bottom, reminds me of some photographs by Ansel Adams. Wonderful composition.

ParticipantHans, Dust To Dust is actually a cropped view and slight pan to the right of the color photo I posted to the Sunrise/Sunset topic last Dec 9th. No illusion there, other than the one we always take for ‘reality’. ;) I liked the mysterious quality that the strongly contrasted B&W brought out of the arrangement. Glad you enjoyed it too!
Recent contributions by all above are other fine examples of cloud formations highlighted sans couleur. Michael, to my eye, your #722 especially leaps out with the head of one of the most unfathomable gargoyles yet to be seen here. Those serious grey tones serve it well!
Below is another one I think holds more allure in B&W.

ParticipantAlmost Black and White is a gorgeous photo, Ruth, with just a breath of color adding to its richness, and you’ve contributed a stunning beauty on the gallery today.
I am definitely seeing double in An Abstract Fight, Hans. It is downright trippy and gave me a bit of vertigo as if I were viewing a scene from an upper tree branch looking down on not one but two squirrels who seem to be eyeing a cat in the lower left corner. That shape in the upper third turned into a fellow who might have gone out to rescue his cat up a tree only to witness the unfolding confrontation. What a scene!
Could this be the tail of the tale?

And thanks for kind words, Michael. It looks like that Lenny fell out of the cloud above in #737. What a great shot!
Below: When I converted the photo on the right, taken just a couple of days ago, to B&W, it brought memories of the photo on the left which I’d posted to this forum topic four years ago. Both look to my eye like moonlit paths I’d like to follow. I’m wondering now if this might turn into some kind of series.
