Natalie Wolchover, writer at Quanta Magazine has written an analysis of recent research published in Nature Geo Science about computer simulations of what might happen to global cloud cover in response to major increases of CO2 in our atmosphere. The theoretical study shows that a major increase in CO2 could result in a dramatic reduction in low clouds responsible for keeping the surface cool. It is a reminder that the behaviour of clouds in a changing climate is little understood, and that the overall cooling effect of earth’s cloud cover could change unpredictably with a warming global climate.
