10,000 strikes was quoted by the Met Office about last night’s electrical storm e.g.

I logged out around midnight last night and spent over half an hour just staring towards northwest Hampshire. As one neighbour in the street outside said to another ‘Never seen anything like it’. The lightning was effectively continuous, 20 seconds would have been a long gap. Unlike the link, for me it was 99% sheet lightning – I saw but one fork lightning to ground (although picture #3, untimed, is from the IoW in southern Hampshire, that’s me on the left on the mainland) and a few cloud-to-cloud. Nevertheless much of the sheet lightning gave the impression of being very close, almost overhead. Picture #11 was typical for me – I wonder if sheet is more difficult to photo than fork, or just considered less dramatic?

Anyone else similarly enthralled by Mother Nature?

It was strangely quiet, there being but a continuous distant rumble. There was no rain.
