Dr. Vijay Reddy Venumuddala (Member 65,567) watched as a Cumulonimbus storm cloud developed over Hyderabad, India. More specifically, this is a Cumulonimbus capillatus. The capillatus species of this mighty storm cloud is named with the Latin for ‘having hair’, referring to the way its upper region spreads into a wild, fibrous hairstyle. This coiffure is made of ice crystals and shows that the Cumulonimbus is in its mature stage: still releasing heavy showers, but now just past its prime. The silver locks of Vijay’s storm had been dyed in henna hues by the light of the setting Sun.
