Over the course of his 60-year life, Dutch landscape painter Jan van Goyen created some 1,200 paintings and over a thousand drawings. In Winter (1625), he shows the time of the year not just with the ice on the ground and the barren trees but also with people skating and a line of birds apparently migrating to warmer climes. All of this is taking place under a bright sky of Cumulus mediocris clouds, so it’s unlikely any inclement weather will interrupt the festivities soon. In other words, get your skates on and head out there!
