Marty Lehenbauer (Member 50,012) was walking with his wife on the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park, Canada as strong winds sculpted the clouds into eyebrow shapes that we refer to, unofficially, as supercilium – from the Latin for ‘eyebrow’. These features along with the other clouds snagging on slopes would be classed as examples of the mid-level formation Altocumulus on account of the altitudes of the region. The eyebrows here were raised by turbulence as the airflows swirled over the peaks around the Athabasca Glacier – and also, perhaps, in reaction to the alarming yearly rate at which it’s melting.
