Over Sidney, British Columbia, Canada, Sara Henke (Member 64,751) spotted a pair of dogs ‘out running across the ocean’.
They are sun dogs, also known as parhelia, which are spots of light that can appear to the left or right of the Sun when its light refracts through prism-like ice crystals in the atmosphere. The ice crystals came courtesy of a Cirrostratus cloud and also produced a 22-degree halo around the Sun. This tethering the sun dogs to an upper tangent arc, the upturned arc keeping watch on the dogs from above.
