On a family trip to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Argentina, Laura Tribby (Member 54,674) danced and leapt for joy as they pulled over to see smooth Altocumulus lenticularis clouds in the layered form known as duplicatus zigzagging across the sky. The wind-sculpted formations were throwing their own cloud party as moist winds lifted over the distant peaks and, in turn, lifted higher and higher air flows. As they rose, the upper airflows condensed into stacked, wavy lens shapes. Lower Cumulus and Stratocumulus were the wallflowers lingering at the party’s fringes.
Laura shared her roadside cloud joy with the family members – and also with their bus driver. Assisted by her Spanish-speaking cousin, she did her best to explain to him about the Cloud Appreciation Society. Thanks to the universal language of the sky, the cloud display spoke for itself.
