Erik Young was on honeymoon in the western highlands of Panama when he spotted this swirling mass of ragged, dark clouds shrouding Volcán Barú, which happens to be an active volcano. These were Cumulus congestus clouds (the dark and puffy ones to the left of the centre), Stratocumulus lenticularis (the smoother layered clouds in the bottom right), and Cumulus fractus (the torn, dark shreds of cloud in the upper centre and right).
Knowing how much his aunt, Valerie Young (Member 47,755), enjoys cloudspotting, Erik shared his Panamanian formations with her. She was delighted enough to gift him a Cloud Appreciation Society membership. So from now on, we expect he’ll be known by Valerie and his new spouse as Member 65,017.
