A former general aviation pilot, contemporary American artist Daniel Brown has ‘an intimate relationship with clouds’. He has, he tells us, been ‘a sky watcher since childhood’. Cloud Mountains is an acrylic painting showing Cumulus congestus clouds towering over the mountains east of Santa Fe, New Mexico, US. In this piece, even the highest peaks of the mountains become little more than gently sloping foothills of the vertiginous cloudscape above. ‘Simply speaking, I see images that inspire me and demand to be set to canvas,’ says Daniel. ‘Living in northern New Mexico, this can happen by merely gazing out the window or taking the dog for a walk down my road.’
