    Interesting!
    I think clouds were just a convenient metaphor for the hymn-writers; but, as with so many theories, parables, etc, are then taken as a literal meaning rather than an illustrative one. Plus, as the article states, these hymns weren’t written in areas where rain is in desperately short supply!
    (Also interested to see that ‘astraphobia’ means ‘fear of storms’ when you’d expect it to mean ‘fear of stars’ [Latin astrum = star/constellation/heaven/glory]).
