Spotted over San Leandro, California, US, this pairing of Cumulus and Stratocumulus clouds briefly framed the Sun in a luminous gap of blue sky. Cloud iridescence appeared along the edges as the sunlight bent, or diffracted, around cloud droplets that were particularly small as they evaporated away. Leslie Salmon-Zhu (Member 44,324) who spotted the scene described it as looking like ‘twins in a womb’. She told us, ‘Seconds later, the infants were gone into the bigger sky.’
